'Spring Forward': 5 Things to Know About Daylight Saving Time

As a result, it can take children up to 10 days to fully reset their internal clock to Daylight Saving Time. In 2007, the federal government expanded Daylight Saving Time, according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, in order to reduce energy consumption.

It's a practice that has been followed for a long time, but there also is increasing resistance to it. States have the right to opt out of the time change. While most, if not all, Texans probably wouldn't mind foregoing the bi-annual adjustment of every household clock, many prefer the extra sunlight that DST affords. Daylight Saving Time now accounts for about 65% of the year. The time change moves more daylight into the evening hours, so you won't have to drive home in the dark and will likely have more time to complete outdoor chores. Other non-observers are the American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

The energy crisis ended in 1976 and the DST schedule in the United States was revised a few times from 1987 to 2006. In 1966, Congress passed the time act unifying the practice across the USA but allowing states to opt out by local ordinance. Filene owned a chain of department stores and hoped that more daylight at the end of the day would encourage shopping.

Defensive lineman Adams is seen as a second or third-round pick while Ford, a safety, could go in the sixth or seventh round. However, he said later that six of his reps were disallowed and that he was "highly disappointed" with the result.

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and reverts to Standard Time on the first Sunday in November which this year will be November 5th. Some studies claim the time switch saves energy on lighting but is surpassed by usage increases for heating and air-conditioning. "Daylight saving time" is correct; "daylight savings time" is incorrect.

So it's no surprise, then, that more than one-quarter (28%) of all parents said they do not like putting their clock ahead one hour for DST.
