Oilers look to make it 3 straight over Sharks

18 April 2017

The Oilers have won the last two games after San Jose claimed the opener.

San Jose's first and only other power play came almost 17 minutes into the scoreless opening period.

Kassian took advantage of a turnover by San Jose defenseman David Schlemko, who appeared to try and hit teammate Tomas Hertl with an ill-advised pass along on the end boards to the left of Sharks goalie Martin Jones.

The Sharks have managed only three goals in the series and none since Melker Karlsson scored 3:22 into overtime of Game 1.

For the first time since picking up a knee injury on April 2, Joe Thornton is in the lineup for the San Jose Sharks.

Game 4 of the First Round will be played Tuesday at 7pm in SAP Center before the action moves to Edmonton for Game 5 on Thursday. Draisaitl's was the line that made the difference in this tense affair, creating the turnover with the forecheck that led to Zack Kassian's second game-winner of the series in the third period. They also dominated territorially, but Joe Pavelski missed an open net on a backhand from the slot less than five minutes in, and Chris Tierney fired high on a partial breakaway with six-and-a-half minutes to go.

The Oilers were reeling a little at the start in their first trip to the Shark Tank at playoff time, which can be intimidating for even the most experienced veteran.

An event nearly 16 months in the making is going down right this moment at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York . Patch says the natural curiosity surrounding giraffes and their birthing process has been a huge factor in drawing crowds.

Edmonton out-shot the Sharks 36-16 on Friday and out attempted them 77-36 in total.

The Oilers showed no mercy in Game 2, hammering Couture repeatedly, including one where Kassian left his feet to level him.

ONWARD: Oilers will nearly certainly need to score more than one goal in Tuesday's game, but the squeeze is on.

Before that, the Sharks' offensive struggles were on full display. Burns is at his best when he gets the puck and fires, opportunities which have come few and far between in this series. I know I said the Oilers had the goaltending edge in this series, but I don't think any of us predicted it would be by such a wide margin. The Oilers are now 4-1 in their last five games with the Sharks. In game 2, Kassian delivered a huge hit to Logan Couture.

Even against top defensive specialist Marc-Edouard Vlasic and a solid defensive team in the San Jose Sharks, McDavid is still making his presence felt.

"After yesterday with the day off, wanted something light", Thornton said. Assuming there are no setbacks between line rushes and puck drop, Thornton should assume his regular role centering one of the team's top two scoring lines. "You just got to work for those bounces and stay confident". "Obviously they are key guys for us". The 20-year-old superstar entered Sunday with a 16-game points streak but was guarded closely by San Jose. Thornton distributed the puck as well as got a healthy share of chances of his own in the early minutes of Sunday's game.
