According to the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office in Iowa, two deputies were shot by a suspect who was escaping custody Monday morning.
Deputies were transporting Wesley Correa-Carmenaty from court to the Pottawattamie County jail after he was convicted of a separate homicide and sentenced to 45 years in prison when he escaped, County Attorney Matt Wilber said. He then apparently dropped the carjacking victim near a liquor store at and then led police on a high speed chase, with speeds being reported at up to 80 miles per hour.
An arrest warrant for all of the above offenses was approved by a judge and extradition proceedings will soon begin to have Correa-Carmenaty returned to Iowa. Warrants also have been filed in Pottawattamie County charging him with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, escape from custody, second-degree kidnapping, three counts of first-degree robbery, intimidation with a unsafe weapon and felon in possession of a firearm. One deputy later succumbed to his injuries.
Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said the deputy's gun was recovered at the site of Correa-Carmenaty's capture.
The other deputy that was wounded is 59-year-old Pat Morgan. The banks can be found in Council Bluffs, Treynor, Macedonia, Atlantic, and Corning, Iowa.
The vehicle then crashed near I-480 and Cuming as the suspect attempted to get on the interstate around 11:30 a.m. See video of the suspect being arrested at the top of this web story.

Authorities are still working to determine how Correa-Carmenaty obtained the gun and whether he had been able to free himself from his shackles during the ride back from court.
After escaping the jail, Correa-Carmenaty tried carjacking the vehicle of a 30-year-old driver, who he also shot, Danker said. Correa-Carmenaty then took off with her vehicle, though it's not clear how he was able to drive it. His identity has not yet been released.
Correa-Carmenaty is accused of several charges in Douglas County.
Warrants were filed Tuesday in Pottawattamie County charging Correa-Carmenaty with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, escape from custody, second-degree kidnapping, three counts of first-degree robbery, intimidation with a unsafe weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
"Today the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office tragically lost a deputy in the line of duty". The most recent death was in 1981.
