President Donald Trump, shown with his son Donald Trump Jr. on January 11 at Trump Tower in NY at the then-president-elect's first news conference after getting elected, says he had no knowledge of his son meeting with an Russian lawyer untill "the last couple of days", the White House said Monday. It was disclosed to the proper parties, which is how the New York Times found out about it to begin with.
It later emerged that during that fateful meeting in June past year, Mr Trump Jr, Mr Trump's son-in-law, Mr Jared Kushner, and then campaign manager Paul Manafort met a Russian government attorney who an intermediary claimed had incriminating information about Mr Trump's rival, Ms Hillary Clinton.
The White House has confirmed that President Donald Trump helped author a discredited statement his son gave in defence of talks with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 election campaign.
According to the Post, Trump dictated the statement later released on his son's behalf claiming the meeting with the Russian lawyer was about adoption while flying back to the USA from Germany aboard Air Force One on July 8.
The adviser's fears don't appear to be misplaced.
"There's no inaccuracy in the statement", said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. "Nor was the president", he said. "So my understanding was, very clearly, this was Donald Trump Jr. and his lawyers", attorney Jay Sukelow said.

The decision was later announced by Nawaz Sharif himself amid loud applause by the parliamentarians and party leaders. He said history would now decide whether the court's decision was good for Pakistan .
"I wasn't involved in the statement drafting at all, nor was the President".
While Sanders denied that Trump "dictated" the document, she acknowledged that he "weighed in and offered suggestions" on a statement that claimed that in the meeting, Trump Jr. and other participants "primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children".
However, the most important aspect is that President Trump does not have the right or power not to contradict the decision voted by the Congress and the House of Representatives. "I think the president accepts that", he told reporters.
SEKULOW: No, that was written by Donald Trump Jr. and I'm sure with consultation with his lawyer.
"The president was coming back from the G20 as this was going on, as you know".
It was, however, shown the initial statement was misleading.
