India, Japan to work closely on connectivity

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived in Ahmedabad on Wednesday evening and was treated to a warm hug from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Thursday, Narendra Modi and Shinzo Abe will participate in the path-breaking ceremony of the bullet-train inauguration.

Abe, the prime minister of Japan, is here for the 12th annual India-Japan summit. It was in 2006 that India and Japan agreed to hold annual summits between the prime ministers of the two countries.

Japanese and USA officials are coordinating Trump's itinerary for a Japan visit, centering on the period from November 4 to 6, and including a meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the sources said.

An India-Japan Business Plenary will also be held.

A group of Buddhist monks were also present at the airport to welcome Abe and his wife.

Japan was the only major country which conveyed its unequivocal support to India and Bhutan through diplomatic channels during the Doklam standoff. The two leaders will deliver statements to the media. The visit itself would promote the strength of the Japan-U.S. alliance to the world amid a deteriorating security environment in the Asia-Pacific region due to North Korean actions, among other issues.
