Cops Let Suspect Speak at Appeal for Missing Teacher

15 September 2017

The missing pregnant teacher from Montgomery County was found dead on Wednesday, according to Montgomery County police. The Baltimore Sun reports that she was named Wilde Lake High's Senior Class Teacher of the Year in 2016.

Wallen's parents were aware of the investigators' "calculated decision" to allow Tessier's participation, Montgomery County Chief of Police Tom Manger said Wednesday during a news conference announcing Tessier's arrest.

On Sept. 7, police found Wallen's auto in Columbia and said Tessier drove the vehicle there and admitted to removing the front tag. That same day, Manger said she texted a friend saying Tesslier had taken her to an open field, and she didn't know why.

"Laura, if you're listening, it doesn't matter what's happened".

"I pray that she's safe and that she comes back", Tessier said at the Monday news conference. But the acquaintance declined to assist, Manger said.

Her father Mark Wallen went to her condo but could not find her and became anxious for her safety. Surveillance video showed the two together on Saturday, Sept. 2, at a grocery store near Wallen's home.

Tyler Tessier was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, two days after he appeared with her parents and made a plea for her safe return.

Police Chief Thomas Manger will hold a news conference late Wednesday.

Junior defensive end Austin Bryant had four sacks, tying the school single-game record shared by Keith Adams and Andre Branch. Auburn PK Daniel Carlson is the school's all-time scoring leader with 371 points and holds 12 Auburn kicking records.

Tessier was living at three different locations during the week, and police said they have questioned the people he stayed with.

"We had a real sense of dread this is the way this was going to end up", Manger said.

When her sister asked where she was, Wallen told her she was "waiting in a field".

The nearly daily hugs from Wallen had students referring to her as "Wallabe with the jellyfish hugs", said Moore, 18, who took Wallen's world history class as a senior a year ago at Wilde Lake. 4 - stating that the child she was carrying was not Tessier's and suggesting it might be that of a previous boyfriend, Manger said.

"The decision to allow him to participate in that news conference was a calculated decision made by the detectives in this case for the express objective of hearing what he had to say". The family offered a reward for information leading to her return. "It was done with the approval and knowledge of the victim's family".

He said prosecutors would determine whether to also charge Tessier in the unborn baby's death.

Because of Wallen's death, the school system announced that Murray Hill Middle School will postpone tonight's back-to-school night and reschedule it for 6:30 p.m. September 28.

Instead, current and former students from Wilde Lake High School gathered with others at Wilde Lake Interfaith Center in Columbia to share their grief. That woman has been interviewed by police, but Manger was unable to elaborate on what was discovered.
