Julia Louis-Dreyfus Makes Emmys History, Hints at Trump's Impeachment During Speech!

Having nabbed this award, Louis-Dreyfus now has seven Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy wins and is tied with fellow School of Communication Alumna Cloris Leachman (C48, H14) for most Emmys won by a female performer, numbering eight apiece. It also makes her the only actor or actress to win that many Emmys for the same role.

The glitzy ceremony in downtown Los Angeles - the first under the administration of President Donald Trump - was expected to have a distinctly political flavour, with host Stephen Colbert likely not to pull his punches.

Dreyfus already had the most victories in that category, also winning for her role in the show, "The New Adventures of Old Christine".

Louis-Dreyfus has won every year she's played mercurial president Meyer, and this was her 24th overall Emmy nomination.

Veep's last season could air too late in the year to be eligible for 2018 Emmy Awards contention.

She has been nominated for 24 Emmys over her decades-long career.
