According to the report, the special counsel has also asked for documents on how the White House responded to questions about a June 2016 meeting involving Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., and a Russian lawyer who had offered to provide damaging information about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Mueller's team sent the request to the White House spelling out 13 different areas that they want to know more about, the paper reported on its website.
The retired lieutenant general was sacked in February after it was revealed he misled Vice President Mike Pence about December phone calls he had with the Russian ambassador at the time Sergey Kislyak. Mueller's team of investigators is expected to interview current and former White House aides in coming weeks as part of that investigation, according to people familiar with the matter. "But not the right to fire the FBI director in order to obstruct an ongoing investigation of the collaboration with the Russians". "He was insane, a real nut job", Trump reportedly said during the May conversation in the Oval Office, according to the Times.
Mr Mueller has previously indicated to the White House that he may interview six of the president's closest present and past advisers.
Mr Mueller is also believed to be interested in any files relating to the sacking of Michael Flynn, the national security adviser, in February.
Trump continues 'bromance' with France's Macron
He noted that France's parade featured representatives from different wars and armed forces wearing different uniforms. Fast-forward to Monday , when Trump met with Macron in NY , and Trump was still admiring that French military parade .
It was at that meeting, shortly after Trump had fired Comey, that the president is reported to have told Kislyak, "I just fired the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation".
"We have cooperated with the special counsel's investigation and we will continue to do that", Pence tells "CBS This Morning" Thursday. It is both specific to his time on the campaign - and does not, presumably, cover the transitional period between the election and inauguration - and also does not categorically deny collusion may have taken place, it just asserts he was not aware of it. Similarly, the F.B.I.is seeking any documents related to meetings between Comey and Trump while the former served as F.B.I. director and any discussions about his subsequent dismissal, including those tied to the White House's initial statements justifying his ouster. Special counsel Robert Mueller, appointed in May in the wake of Trump firing FBI Director James Comey, took over the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign coordinated with the Russians.
Mueller's new focus on the White House indicates that his investigation continues to accelerate. "It obviously is relevant to his reasons for firing Comey, and thus to the obstruction investigation", O'Sullivan wrote.
Former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates has said she warned White House counsel Don McGahn in January that deception left Flynn and the White House in a compromised position.
