Yankees' Judge breaks McGwire's rookie HR record

27 September 2017

In today's baseball game, the New York Yankees took control in the first inning with a 1-0 lead, continued to add to it, and never trailed. (Judge clubbed 10 round-trippers in April and June.) The two he collected on Monday - his seventh multi-homer game of 2017 - gave him 50 for the year, surpassing Mark McGwire for most home runs in a season by a rookie.

Judge smacked his record-breaking homer with the Yankees down two outs in the bottom of the seventh innning at Yankee Stadium. "He's pitching like he's trying to get you out". That means Judge now owns the all-time single-season rookie home run record. Mercifully, Judge chose to get the 50th out of the way this afternoon after tying McGwire's record four innings earlier, sparing us disingenuous suspense about surpassing Big Mac. Sanchez followed Judge in the seventh with back-to-back homers for the third time this year, raising his total to 33.

One thing is for certain; Aaron Judge is the new leader for home runs in a season by a rookie.

Despite a slump after the All-Star break, Judge appears to have once again found his swing, having hit four homers in his past two days to break McGwire's record and keeping his name in the conversation for AL MVP. Junis surrendered seven hits, including home runs to Aaron Judge and Greg Bird. Addison Russell hit a three-run double in the first, then dived into the stands chasing a ball and spilling a tray of chips held by a fan.

"Just the way they run that whole team there, from the GM down, it was a fun atmosphere", said Judge of his stay in Trenton.

That support has been waning in recent months as Spain's national and regional economies have begun thriving. The Catalan government said Saturday it would resist Madrid's measures.

"He's handled it with grace and humility, and he's never lost who he is and his ability to change someone's day", Girardi said. The Royals headed home from an 11-game, four-city trip trailing the Twins for the second AL wild card by six games with six games left.

Jake Junis was knocked around for six runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Yankees on Monday.

NY veteran CC Sabathia went six innings, coughing up three earned runs and six hits.

Yankees: OF Aaron Hicks (oblique) was to start playing in instructional league games at New York's minor league complex.
