Windows Insiders get access to mobile Microsoft Edge and Launcher app

The iOS version of Microsoft Edge is based on WebKit rendering engine by Apple whereas the Android version is based on Chromium. But, what makes Microsoft Edge really stand out is the ability to continue on the PC, which enables the user to immediately open the page they're looking at right on their PC-or save it to work on later.

Over the a year ago I have steadily chronicled the Microsoft Edge Extensions in the Windows Store, err, I mean Microsoft Store, in Windows 10 so after an update from the Edge team late last month I figured it was time to update our extension tracking.

In order for a beta version of Edge web browser for iOS and Android to work, users will have to run the latest version of Windows 10. "These two (Edge for iOS and Android) apps will knit all this together for all our customers".

The preview, for Android and iOS, is limited to US English for now, but the company says it'll expand language options later in the programme.

Microsoft's Edge web browser has been exclusively available on Windows 10 operating system so far, but this has just changed. Now, you're either showing up as "Active" when you're using the app, and your contacts will see you as "Last seen x hours/days ago" when you're no longer active.

The new Microsoft Launcher app for Android brings a range of new features to your Android device, the app is available as a preview on the Google Play Store.

It requires users to link their smartphone to PC which involves a Microsoft account, a phone number and an installation of at least one app.

Microsoft Launcher is a Windows Phone-like home screen derived from Microsoft's "Arrow Launcher" Garage project. Instead, Microsoft is focusing on the Microsoft Edge experience, and making that available on both platforms. We think it's the most lovely (based on Fluent design), customizable, powerful launcher available. Not only that, you swipe right to see your recent applications, events, news and activities and Microsoft calls it "The Feed".
