Syria regime forces enter IS-held Mayadeen: monitor

Backed by the Russian military and fighters of Lebanon's Hezbollah resistance fighters, the Syrian army managed to break Daesh's three-year siege on Dayr al-Zawr province in yet another significant blow to the terrorist outfit.

The Russian military source clarified that more than 60 ISIL terrorists from the CIS countries, Tunisia and Egypt were killed in a Russian airstrike on the valley of the Euphrates River southern Deir Ezzor, in addition to destroying 12 vehicles equipped with heavy machineguns.

The ministry said the "large numbers of foreign mercenaries" were coming into the Syrian border town of Albu Kamal from Iraq.

The ministry also confirmed the death of three senior ISIS commanders including Omar al-Shishani as a result of an earlier Russian strike.

"A command post of the terrorists and up to 80 (IS) fighters including nine natives of the Northern Caucasus were destroyed in the area of Mayadeen", the ministry said, adding some 40 IS fighters were killed around the town of Albu Kamal.

Dozens of ISIS militants, among them warlords and foreign fighters, were killed in a series of Russian airstrikes in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
