StarCraft® II Goes Free-to-Play Starting November 14

05 November 2017

From November 14, the Wings of Liberty story campaign will be absolutely free to play.

Free to play is here, bringing a wealth of options for new and returning StarCraft II players.

Players who already owned any version of StarCraft II prior to October 31 will receive a special Eidolon Ghost skin and three portraits commemorating their founder's status in the game when StarCraft II goes free-to-play.

While some free-to-play games take a looser approach to the term by making the game free to download but essential content available through microtransactions, Blizzard seems to be avoiding that heavily criticized structure.

Sporting a vibrant 3D-graphics engine, StarCraft II will once again center on the clash between the protoss, terrans, and zerg, with each side deploying legions of veteran, upgraded, and new unit types.

Perhaps the most exciting change this introduces is 100% free access to ranked multiplayer matches.

Hamas was said to be urging caution and coordination with Egypt in order to avoid upsetting the fragile Palestinian unity deal. Israeli leaders have been keen to show they are addressing the threat of tunnels from the Gaza Strip.

The original Wings of Liberty single player campaign from 2010 is playable as well as every co-op commander and competitive multiplayer content.

Blizzard has been receiving that kind of input from players and partners "almost incidentally since the launch of StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void", the game's second expansion, Morten said.

Online multiplayer will be accessible free of charge once unlocked, which happens after achieving 10 First Wins of the Day in either unranked or versus modes. That feedback also came from Blizzard's esports partners, who would understandably want to see some fresh blood playing StarCraft 2.

Current and upcoming Co-op Commanders up to level five - You'll be able to tackle these extra challenging missions with your friends right away. Users just need to log-in to Battle.net between November 8 and December 8 to claim it.

Of course, new players who get the game for free can also purchase the other two campaigns: Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. This ensures that the quality and integrity of the ranked experience is intact.
