SJW: Are Michael Flynn And His Son Mueller's Next Indictment Targets?

Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti told CNN on Saturday that "there's no question" that special counsel Robert Mueller will indict more people in his investigation into the Trump 2016 campaign and Russian meddling in the election.

Mueller's team is also examining whether Flynn attempted to orchestrate the removal of a chief rival of Turkish President Recep Erdogan from the Turkey in exchange for millions of dollars, two officials said.

Investigators on Mueller's team will be speaking to "multiple witnesses" over the next few days "to gain more information surrounding Flynn's lobbying work, including whether he laundered money or lied to federal agents about his overseas contacts", NBC reports, citing "three sources familiar with the investigation".

Mr Manafort and his business partner, Rick Gates, were charged with 12 offences, including money laundering and conspiracy against the US.

FBI investigators are reported to have arranged interviews with multiple witnesses in the coming days with the aim of gathering further evidence against Mr Flynn.

If the elder Flynn is indicted, it would be the first charges brought against someone who worked in the Trump White House.

Washington Post conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin said that Attorney Gen. Jeff Sessions "is going to have a lot of difficulty" in the weeks ahead due to his false statements to Congress.

Sources "familiar with the investigation" say Flynn, who was sacked after just 24 days, and his son could be implicated in the probe into Russia's intervention in last year's election, according to NBC News. But cooperation from Flynn, who was national security adviser for only 24 days before he was sacked, could help his son avoid the worst penalties.

According to the Justice Department his consulting firm was paid $530,000 previous year for work that may have helped the Turkish government but he had not registered as a foreign lobbyist at the time.

If charged, Flynn would become the first member of Trump's administration to face prosecution in the growing, wide-ranging investigation into whether the president's campaign team colluded with Russian Federation to damage the reputation of Hillary Clinton.

In addition, George Papadopoulos was revealed in unsealed documents to have pleaded guilty to misleading investigators over conversations he had with foreign nationals, including Russians.
