Former Trump aide Flynn pleads guilty to lying about Russian Federation links

02 December 2017

The court documents provide the clearest picture yet of coordination between Flynn and other Trump advisers in contacting Russian officials to influence worldwide policy. The statement is the first indication that Flynn is cooperating with the special counsel's office.

Disgraced national security adviser Michael Flynn is prepared to testify that President Trump "directed him to make contact with the Russians" during last year's presidential campaign, according to reports. But I recognize that the actions I acknowledged in court today were wrong, and, through my faith in God, I am working to set things right. "I accept full responsibility for my actions", he said.

But the ABC report, which suggested for the first time that Flynn will point the finger at Trump directly, sent shudders through a market that has been breaking record after record in recent months.

In a setback to President Donald Trump, his former national security advisor Michael Flynn today pleaded guilty to making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation over possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation during last year's U.S. presidential polls.

Flynn, who served in Donald Trump's administration for just 24 days before being forced to resign for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his Russian Federation contacts, could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.

Flynn admitted he lied to FBI investigators about his private discussions at the end of December 2016 with Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador, about U.S. sanctions imposed on Moscow by the administration of then president Barack Obama. Mike Flynn has pled guilty to criminal conduct, while he was serving as National Security Adviser to the President of the United States, involving his contact with Russian officials.

Flynn denies that he discussed US sanctions against Russian Federation with Kislyak.

A December 29 call between Flynn and Trump advisers discussed the potential impact on the "incoming administration's foreign policy goals", according to a court filing Friday. The prosecutors' filing did not name the transition officials.

First lady goes with classic, traditional Christmas decor
The theme goes hand-in-hand with President Trump's belief that America needs to restore the tradition in Christmas. There are obvious comparisons between the Obama's official Christmas cards and the Trumps' first Christmas card.

"Separately, authorities say Flynn lied about asking the ambassador to delay a vote on United Nations Security Council resolutions".

With Flynn, the charges actually stem from his role on the White House transition team, and they involve a man who was clearly close to Trump - a man to whom the notoriously fickle Trump has for some reason remained loyal even long after Flynn's usefulness to him expired.

"The false statements involved mirror the false statements to White House officials which resulted in his resignation in February of this year", Cobb said.

President Trump's attorney Ty Cobb played down the importance of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn's guilty plea Friday.

The opposition Democratic Party was quick to slam Trump.

In October, Paul Manafort, Trump's one-time campaign chairman, and Manafort's deputy Rick Gates were arrested on money laundering and tax-related charges in relation to their work for Moscow-backed Ukrainian leader Viktor Yanukovych.

But Trump has repeatedly rejected that view.

Three others have been charged in the Mueller probe.
