The policy change will also see the USA embassy to Israel move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a decision that has sparked anger and protests throughout the occupied Palestinian territories, and drawn condemnation from world leaders.

Following US President Donald Trump's declaration Wednesday on Jerusalem, a kosher restaurant was attacked in the Netherlands by a Palestinian waving his national flag, and 20 men hurled firebombs at a synagogue in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Arab foreign ministers gathered in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Saturday for an emergency meeting created to formulate a unified response to President Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, a move that has sparked anger and protests in the Arab world.

In Paris, hundreds rallied against a visit by Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and a planned visit to the Middle East by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence is already getting a cold reception.

Netanyahu was quick to counter the assault when he spoke later during a press conference alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.

Speaking on his departure, Netanyahu said he would not be deterred.

"There will be no meeting with the vice president of America in Palestine", Abbas's diplomatic adviser Majdi al-Khaldi told AFP.

Erdogan earlier described the status of Jerusalem, whose eastern sector Palestinians see as the capital of their future state, as a "red line" for Muslims.

"While I respect Europe, I am not prepared to accept a double standard from it". Israel, he said during an address to the Turkish Exporters' Assembly, "is an occupying state and their police are shooting youths and children".

State Department officials told the Free Beacon the US government, because of Trump's declaration, "recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and its seat of government". It's been the capital of the Jewish state for 70 years.

"We must, more than ever, make our voices heard against this decision by Trump that will deprive the Palestinians of their land", said the lawyer from Casablanca, accompanied by his six-year-old daughter. "Jews all over the world form four corners of world have kept Jerusalem at the heart of their prayers", he said.

France has been a supporter of the Palestinian cause.
