Liverpool's Mohamed Salah named African footballer of the year

The attacker has already scored 19 goals for the Reds in all competitions and Calciomercato, via La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Roma are about to receive a bonus linked with the transfer of the 25-year-old.

Salah is the first Egyptian victor of the award since Mohamed Barakat won it in 2005 and the winger says he hopes to go down as the best player his country has ever had.

"I would like to thank my Liverpool team-mates and I also had a good season with Roma so I have to thank my team-mates there and my team-mates in the national team", said Salah.

Salah and Liverpool will play West Brom at 9am Thursday in the English Premier League.

Fellow Liverpool star Sadio Mane came second in the vote, while Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang was third. I've had a very good start here.

He carried AS Roma (2nd in Italian Serie A), in the first half of the year, scoring 15 goals and delivering 11 assists.

He also added: "I want everyone in Egypt to follow my way".

"I have to thank everyone, my team-mates, the people I work with".

Additionally, Salah was named Champions League player of the week in September. "It's a big pleasure, to be honest, to work with him".
