15 December 2017

Family members of deceased veterans buried or entombed at the Coastal Bend Veterans State Cemetery and community volunteers will place wreaths on the graves of military veterans.

In 2007, the Worcester family, along with veterans, and other groups and individuals who had helped with their annual veterans wreath ceremony in Arlington, formed Wreaths Across America, a non-profit 501-(c)(3) organization, to continue and expand this effort, and support other groups around the country who wanted to do the same. National Wreaths Across America Day is a free community event open to all people.

Thursday morning Junior ROTC cadets from Greeneville and Greene County Schools will lay 1,900 wreaths at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery, according to Stephanie Steinhorst, Chief of Interpretation and Education at Andrew Johnson National Historic Site.

This event, that is sponsored by the Veterans Band of Corpus Christi, Texas, will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 16.

The dedication of veterans and their service to our country is remembered each holiday season through the national Wreaths Across America program, which will be marked Saturday at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. After the ceremony more than 5,000 wreaths will be laid on the graves at Mountain Home. Over 100,000 wreaths were placed on veterans' graves.
