Sears, Kmart closing another 103 stores

08 January 2018

More retail retrenchment: Sears Holdings Corp. announced it will close 64 more Kmart stores by early April of this year - including one at 3301 Aramingo Ave.in Port Richmond.

The move means Kmart will have three Louisiana stores: 7000 Veterans Blvd. and 2940 Veterans Blvd.in Metairie and in Lake Charles.

The 100 stores that will close will be a mix of Kmart and Sears locations. The Kmart at 1400 Wildcat in Portland, Texas is on the list of store closures.

Customers can use the store locator function on stores websites to find the nearest store.

Sears had operated for years in downtown Eugene on West 10th Avenue between Olive and Charnelton streets.

The Sears located at 5540 Winfield Avenue at Oakridge Mall is closing, and the store at San Rafael's Northgate Mall is closing too.

Liquidation sales will start as early as January 12.

Katrina overwhelmed by the success of Tiger Zinda Hai
On the opening day itself, the film performed stupendously with a collection of ₹33.75 crore , courtesy 4600 screens. Viewers have been raving about it but it appears that the success of Tiger Zinda Hai isn't all entertainment value.

Sears had already been planning to downsize in Orland Park, where it's been an anchor store since the mall opened in 1976.

"It's a shame to see the regulars go", said Springfield resident Fay Lister, who said she has shopped at the Springfield Sears store, mostly for appliances, "for as long as it's been here".

She says they've been preparing for the closure for more than a year.

"Sears Holdings continues its strategic assessment of the productivity of our Kmart and Sears store base and will continue to right size our store footprint in number and size", the company said in a statement.

On the mall's east end, the former Sears building's upper floors will house a 14-screen movie theater encased in glass.

In 2016, the company reported an operating loss of $2.2 billion.
