As expected by political observers, Kendrapada MP Baijayant Panda was suspended from the BJD's primary membership with immediate effect by party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on disciplinary ground on Wednesday. Panda had been in the news for his newspaper articles and a series of comments on social media after Patnaik had requested senior BJD leaders not to go to social media or media on party matters. Listing the reasons for Panda's suspension from the party's primary membership, Patro said that the MP had been trying his best to weaken the BJD after 2014 elections when he was not allowed by party leadership to become ex-officio chairman of the Lok Sabha's Standing Committee on Finance.
Patro said, Panda claims of being a founder member of BJD are totally false, also panda was supporting opposite party members and he didn't campaign for Biju Janta Dal anywhere.
As vice chairman of IMFA Panda has drawn annual salaary and allowances of Rs 1.45 crore in 2014 and there has been a huge loan waiver which is still a matter of debate. "This is totally against the interests of party and its functionaries who are responsible for sending him to Parliament four times", Patro alleged.

Panda tweeted that he was shocked and that it was sad that Naveen Patnaik did not see through the conspiracy against him led by an IAS officer who is now controlling the party.
