University: Student Charged in Parents' Slayings

05 March 2018

The Central Michigan University student police say shot and killed his parents Friday morning used his father's gun, police said Saturday.

He remained under guard Saturday at a hospital where he was taken following his arrest, but will be moved to the Isabella County jail when he's discharged, Yeagley said.

Davis Sr. and his wife, Diva Jennen Davis, were the victims in the shooting, officials said.

"The gun was registered to his father, and. we saw for sure that [Davis] came from the parking lot into our residence hall with the gun and the father was upstairs at that time", Yeagley said. When they questioned Davis Jr., campus authorities said he was not making any sense.

He was then released to hospital staff, Klaus said.

Davis Jr.'s father was a police officer in Bellwood, Illinois, which is just west of Chicago.

"Mr Davis was very vague".

As for Friday's shooting, "we're calling it a family-type domestic issue at this point", he said. Davis Jr. said the person had a gun, but he couldn't say who they were, where they were going to harm him or when, authorities said. Yeagley said Davis, Jr. informed them he would be going home in the morning.

Authorities again had contact with Davis Jr. before the shooting.

At a press conference Saturday, Yeagley declined to say whether drugs were found in Davis Jr.'s system.

According to Illinois state lawmaker Emanuel Chris Welch, James Davis Sr. was a police officer in Bellwood, Illinois.

But perhaps it is her way of hiding from the glare of the spotlight which will now focus on her at full wattage. Shiffrin watched Ledecka's super-G run and knew she was seeing something special.

Those at the gathering agreed with Fleming, saying Davis, Jr. was in need of prayers as well.

He brought it back to the room and allegedly shot his parents, police said.

Davis Jr. was then seen leaving and heading north along the railroad tracks. For hours the campus went into lockdown mode while a manhunt involving local and state police also included help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and ATF. "The deceased are not students and police believe the situation started from a domestic situation", the university said in a statement.

Mt. Pleasant Mayor Allison Lents commended the community during the press conference for their response in light of tragedy and their cooperation with law enforcement.

University President George E. Ross said the shooting had left the campus and surrounding community traumatized. The university said that police determined Davis went to the family vehicle, got the gun and returned to the residence hall with the handgun.

The suspect in the shooting incident that happened on CMU's campus is now in custody. "We are a safe campus, but yesterday we demonstrated our ability to deal with the inconceivable", he said.

"I think everyone - people who weren't here may be who didn't experience it might be a little shaken but I never really questioned the safety of this campus", said Kelsey Bogrow.
