Clocks will spring forward one hour at 2:00 a.m. Sunday and Windsor Fire Services is recommending residents install new batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when they change their clocks.

He says there are many smoke alarms on ceilings that are not up to date.

Daylight Saving Time rolls around, and you have to change your clocks.

The American Red Cross of Northwest Ohio will provide and install free smoke detectors.

"Because at times you do get a bad battery or one that's worn out", said Jeff Bagwell, spokesperson for Rural/Metro Fire.

Firefighters stress twice a year that we need to put a new 9-volt battery in our smoke detectors. If the alarm does not sound, replace the battery.

Paul Manafort's Virginia Trial On Federal Charges Set For July 10
If Manafort is convicted in either the Virginia or D.C. case, it could amount to a life sentence since he's is 68 years old. Manafort shielded from the IRS millions of dollars he earned as a consultant and lobbyist for the Ukrainian government.

"The battery and/or filter mechanism in the detector eventually wears out and they won't be as sensitive as they were when you first got them out of the box", said Drouard. "Alarms that are more than 10 years old should be replaced".

The time to talk about smoke detectors is before a fire breaks out. When Chuck's daughter, Larissa, moved into a new home with her husband, Steve, and their two children, Chuck insisted on installing smoke alarms to make sure his grandchildren were safe. A working smoke alarm significantly increases your chances of surviving a deadly home fire.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, nearly two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from fires in properties without working smoke alarms.

- Most smoke alarms are operated with a disposable type of battery.

There are also combination smoke/CO alarms and advanced units that can send emergency texts or emails through a Wi-Fi setup.
