The New Zealand men's pursuit team were disqualified from their bronze medal ride against Canada due to one of their bikes not meeting the regulations in qualifications at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane tonight.

Fellow Australian Jack McLoughlin claimed the silver medal in Thursday night's final with England's James Guy third.

The Gold Coast is staging the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games, but cycling and shooting events are being held in refurbished Brisbane venues that were initially built for the 1982 Games.

The women's pursuit team - Ashlee Akudinoff, Annette Edmondson, Amy Cure and Alexandra Manly - also took gold, nearly lapping New Zealand, The Australian reported.

The hosts lit up the track, posting a time of 4min 17.218sec, a Games record, and were over five seconds head of the Kiwis in qualifying.

The 200m freestyle champion then swam the fastest split time in the relay but ran out of steam in the final few strokes.
