Jake DeBrusk Looking Forward To 'Crazy' Environment In Toronto For Game 3

16 Апреля 2018

The Bruins' head coach wasn't exactly dealing with a makeshift lineup in the first two games of the best-of-7 first round playoff series against the Maple Leafs - not with everyone on the top two lines, the No. 1 defense pair and the starting goalie all healthy - but there were some issues below that.

Toronto is far too talented offensively to go quietly through two games of a series, and the Leafs finally got on the board in the second as goals from Mitch Marner and Tyler Bozak sandwiched one from Bruins' David Krejci.

So naturally, after the lopsided Game 2 loss, Matthews was asked about being held scoreless against the backdrop of the line he's matching up against putting up 20 points. That came in Game 1 with Zach Hyman's highlight-reel goal.

It just doesn't matter who skates with Matthews because at this rate there's no stopping Marchand, Bergeron and Pastrnak.

That can't stop. And center Riley Nash, who has been out since March 31 after taking a puck to the ear off the stick of Torey Krug, could return for Game 3, making the Bruins even deeper and more versatile. And in a game where the Leafs at times showed enough fight to potentially make some noise, Rask kept them in check.

Despite series lead, Bruins must find a way to ramp it up for Game 2

These three youngsters don't have the defensive savvy that Boston's top line does, but they certainly have the skill to keep up. And now one year after boring four points (two goals, two assists) in six games during his National Hockey League playoffs debut against Ottawa, Pastrnak has raised his game beyond where anyone would expect considering the competition and the magnitude of the situation.

If the Maple Leafs have any hope of getting back in their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series with the Boston Bruins, they'll need their fans to bring their all in the next two games in Toronto. "I think we don't think about what's going to happen, just what we can do and what we can control". "That's what amazes me with him", Bergeron said about Pastrnak. "I thought first couple periods (of Game 2) we did a good job against them".

"We know they're going to have more energy". After a plucky two periods in Game 1, Colorado wasn't able to keep pace with the Nashville Predators in the final frame. To say that he hasn't learned anything from the dynamic Bergeron-Marchand duo is an understatement. This, after the first line accounted for two goals and four assists in the 5-1 victory in the series opener. "Our power play has been good all year, nice to get one late (in Game 2) and hopefully it gives us a little boost". Take the lessons, what they have for you.

"They scored a goal that was offside, we didn't have the stuff, we didn't do that".

The Leafs could have used Kadri - and a few other scorers like him. But then Pastrnak opened the floodgates at 5:26 of the first. We had the proof in the second period when we were up for four goals, we got away from it a bit. Jake DeBrusk, Kevan Miller and Rick Nash scored after Pastrnak got it started. He put the slow-footed Leo Komarov on the top line, but that was destined to fail. But they still needed to clean some things up even with a comfortable lead.

Rask's final numbers won't impress you - 30 saves on 33 shots amounts to just a.909 save percentage.

After a Game 1 rout at the hands of the Penguins, the Flyers got a measure of revenge and returned the favor in Game 2.

Head coach Bruce Cassidy acknowledged Rask's strong night after the game, noting that a performance like that can get lost in the whirlwind of a seven-goal bombardment. So, you lose 5-2, 5-4, 10-2, it doesn't matter; it's a loss.

"We've got plenty of stuff to look at (and) get ourselves prepped", Toronto defenceman Ron Hainsey said.

Unfortunately for Matthews and the Maple Leafs, they're not likely to be printing t-shirts with his slogan unless his team makes a miraculous turnaround and wins this series, which will continue with Game 3 in Toronto on Monday.
