There is no doubt that coming into this rut NBA regular season the Chicago Bulls were one of the most talented young teams in the league, but even though most people anticipate events be playoff bound once again at season’s end, no one anticipated that being as good as they are right now with superstar point guard Derrick Rose playing like the NBA MVP.

Heading into their last game before the NBA All-Star break, the Chicago Bulls were sporting an impressive 37-16 record. Not only is that the third-best record in the Eastern conference just behind the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat, but they could threaten LeBron James and company for the third spot in the East when it is all said and done at season’s end.

At this point in time the San Antonio Spurs are arguably the best team in the league with a 46-9 record and the best chance to dethrone the defending two-time NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers. Despite not getting any younger and being led by aging veterans like All-Stars Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili, the Spurs are as a good as it gets this season, but they had their work cut out for them against a motivated Bulls team.

Coming into this game the Chicago Bulls were favored to come out on top with a -2 point spread, but with the San Antonio Spurs only losing nine games all season, the consensus was they were going to head into the All-Star break with only single digit losses.

Unfortunately for the Spurs, that didn’t turn out to be the case as All-Star point guard Derrick Rose was just unstoppable as he finished with a career-high 42 points to lead Chicago over San Antonio 109-99.

This gives the Chicago Bulls the momentum they were looking for heading into the All-Star break and could mean big things for this up and coming squad in the second half of the NBA regular season.
