One of the toughest things to do in the NBA is repeat as an NBA champion. No matter how good the team’s players may be or moves made in the summer to improve an NBA franchise, it is still extremely to pull off the repeat by beating the best of the best consistently.

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the few teams in professional sports over the years that have been able to repeat and do it more than once. Back in the beginning of this century, the Lakers were the team to beat with the likes of young Kobe Bryant and a dominant Shaquille O’Neal leading the way. The result was three straight NBA titles and a dynasty in Los Angeles.

Since then the Lakers found it tough to get back to their dominant ways in the NBA, but after acquiring All-Star forward Pau Gasol a few years ago, they were able to do just that and came into this season looking to pull off the three-peat for the second time in the Kobe Bryant era.

Even though this season has been rough at times for the defending NBA champions, the Lakers have been able to turn it around as of late with some impressive performances like the one in San Antonio against the league leading Spurs this past Sunday afternoon.

Despite being the underdogs, the Lakers had won six straight coming into this matchup with their rivals and were motivated to get their seventh. The consensus was that this game would be the one in which the Lakers would begin to struggle once again, but that didn’t turn out to be the case as Phil Jackson’s squad came out firing on all cylinders and basically won the game in the first quarter.

Kobe Bryant dropped a game-high 26 points in rout of the San Antonio Spurs (99-83), but it was a team effort in this game as Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom had solid performances as well. As of the Spurs, Tony Parker was the only starter that really came to play as he finished with 14 points, but that just wasn’t enough to even put a dent in the Lakers’ lead as the defending champs cruise to victory. We should have all the latest NBA betting action coming for you this week.
