The NBA Finals between the archrivals in the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics will begin this Thursday in Los Angeles at the Staples Center, but in the meantime the Celtics are licking their wounds as they have two key players trying to recover from injuries sustained in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Orlando Magic.

During these NBA playoffs, arguably the most important player for the Boston Celtics has been All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo. Even though he was considered one of the best point guards in the league coming into the postseason, he is taking it to another level throughout the playoffs as these just dominated on both sides of the basketball floor. The upcoming free agent class in the NBA is arguably the most talented and most impactful the league has ever seen as some very big names in the NBA could be heading elsewhere this summer.

Obviously, the biggest name available this summer is without a doubt LeBron James from the Cleveland Cavaliers, but there are plenty of other game changers that could very easily take a struggling NBA franchise from perennial loser to a possible playoff team or maybe even title contender. It has been 18 games since Brad Lidge has played a game with the Philadelphia Phillies.  Monday, prior to the commencement of the game against Atlanta, the Phillies activated the right-handed closer from the disabled list where he was placed after experiencing stiffness in his elbow.

At the beginning of this year, in January, Lidge’s elbow was operated on.  He made an appearance in a game on April 30, but his was still experiencing some stiffness in his elbow.  He underwent an MRI early in May that revealed that there no current structural damage but he needed to rest in order to fully recuperate and to do so properly. Derek Holland of the Texas Rangers will more than likely go on the disabled list come this Tuesday.  It appears after some examination, he has mild inflammation in his left rotator cuff.

In Sunday’s game against the Twins, Holland felt some numbness in his left hand and was immediately removed from the game in the second inning.  He had thrown a little more than 40 pitches and was examined Monday by Dr. Keith Meister.  He is expected to be off the field for anywhere up to five days at which time he will probably commence a throwing program.  Continue Reading…

Yup, you read the title right.  The Boston Red Sox activated Jacoby Ellsbury from the disabled list just a few days ago on May 22 and now he is already headed back to the DL.  He is being placed on the 15-day DL due to an injury to his ribs.  The injury is the same one that landed him on the disabled list in April.

Last month, April 11, Ellsbury came in contact with Adrian Beltre, third baseman, which caused Ellsbury to suffer from hairline fractures on four of his ribs.   Continue Reading…

This past Thursday, the NBA was looking forward to what would be arguably the best game of the playoffs so far with the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers taking on the Phoenix Suns in game five of the Western Conference Finals.

The highly anticipated battle between Kobe Bryant’s Lakers and Steve Nash’s Suns turned out to be arguably the most entertaining game of the postseason thus far, but earlier in the day, Dwyane Wade announced that the he would meet with some of the big name free agents to discuss who is going where and possibly teaming up with some of these players. Ryan Newman, U.S. Army No. 39 of Stewart-Haas Racing, captured the pole with success yesterday in the qualifying for this Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup series event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  He didn’t get the pole without being nervous though.

Newman watched other drivers that qualified before him and he realized that to be his fastest he would need to hug the wall.  This is not something that you see Newman doing very often so it did trigger a bit of uneasiness inside him.  However, he decided to do what he needed to do and he captured the pole position. The defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers have had an interesting postseason to say the least as they have had it very easy at times and have also really struggled at times.

In the first round of the playoffs, a young and motivated Oklahoma City Thunder team lead by arguably the best scorer in the league in Kevin Durant gave the Los Angeles Lakers a run for their money as they beat the defending champs twice. Even though the Lakers eventually advanced to the second round after six games, Kobe Bryant and company were tested much earlier than anticipated and many people started second guessing the Lakers chances of repeating as NBA champs. It seems that Ben Roethlisberger has shown some impressive progress, or at least to Roger Goodell, Commissioner of the NFL.  Goodell is so satisfied with Roethlisberger’s improvement in his behavioral sessions that he is allowing him to return to practice sessions with the Pittsburgh Steelers as early as next week.

Roethlisberger was suspended for a total of six games without pay earlier this year.  He was initially suspended due to allegedly violating terms within the NFL’s personal conduct policy.  He was then required to participate in behavioral evaluations.  This all steamed from a sexual assault case in Georgia.  Continue Reading…

Kyle Lohse of the St. Louis Cardinals has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Today, it was announced that Kyle Lohse of the Cardinals would undergo surgery this coming Friday on his right forearm due to a very rare condition.

No one expected that the injury to his forearm would be such a rare condition that would require such extensive surgery that would keep him out of the game indefinitely.  This surgery could keep Lohse from returning to the Cardinals starting lineup for the rest of the MLB season.
