The 2010 World Cup is rapidly approaching and the deadline for all the 32 teams participating in the World Cup this year in South Africa are required to have their final roster of 23 men in by 1 June. The United States have finalized their team roster by making the cut of seven men from the initial 30 man rosters.
Some of the men that made the cut for the final roster were actually considered long shots. Two forwards that will gain huge recognition by making the cut are Herculez Gomez, who was honored as the Mexican League’s leading scorer, and Edson Buddle, who is the leading scorer with the Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer. These two were once considered long shots mainly due to the fact that neither of them have ever participated in a World Cup event. Continue Reading…
Wednesday, the New York Yankees made an official announcement that they have signed pitcher Chad Gaudin. Gaudin was added to the Yankees’ 25-man active roster and has signed a Major League agreement with the team. Specific terms were not disclosed about the deal between the Yankees and Gaudin.
Last August, Gaudin was first acquired by the Yankees from the San Diego Padres and was then released by the team March 25. He had a 3.43 ERA and was 2-0 in 11 total games in 2009 for the Yankees, six of which were starts. He helped the Yankees to the 2009 World Series and are now the defending champions. Although he has not shown us the greatest playing tactics, former Chicago Bears’ fullback Jason McKie has now been acquired by the New Orleans Saints. McKie has signed only a one-year contract with the Saints, but it is more than enough for this free agent 5-11, 247-pound fullback.
Chicago had received Mike Martz, a new offensive coordinator, who had intentions on downplaying McKie’s role a bit, which to many would be understandable since during his time with the Bears, he had only six touchdowns, 364 receiving yards, and 84 rushing yards in his 47 starts with the team. Last week, we reported that John Maine was taken out of Thursday’s game against the Washington Nationals after throwing only five pitches. He was scheduled for an MRI on Monday that revealed that he had rotator cuff tendinitis in his right shoulder. The official announcement came from the New York Mets Monday after the MRI results had been confirmed.
John Maine kept telling everyone that he was fine after being replaced on the mound during Thursday’s game and being put on the DL the following Friday; however, he has now confessed to some discomfort. Continue Reading…
It has been in lieu for a while now, but the Miami Dolphins finally have this trade underway. They have been considering the fact of trading Justin Smiley for at least a couple months now, but never pushed forward with it until now.
The Dolphins will be trading guard Smiley to the Jacksonville Jaguars provided that Smiley can pass a physical examination. Though, the question is – will he be able to pass it? One of the main reasons the Dolphins are wanting to trade Justin Smiley is because of a rickety shoulder. Continue Reading…
The Washington Nationals placed their catcher Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list today due to a strained lower back.
38-year-old Rodriguez participated in the game Saturday night against the Baltimore Orioles, but left the game early with an injury to the lower back. The team went on to win in 10 innings in the game series finish on Sunday, which Pudge was unable to participate in.
The 14-time All-Star strained his back at the bottom of the game’s third inning when he took a missed swing at a pitch from Baltimore’s pitcher Brad Bergesen. The Nationals’ trainer as well as the manager came to check on Pudge, but said he was alright and continued his batting where he grounded out and ended up leaving the game at the inning conclusion. This NBA regular season was an absolutely nightmare for the Washington Wizards in more ways than one as they quickly went from a team ready to compete in the Eastern Conference to arguably the worst team in the league once again.
Coming into this NBA season, the Wizards had high hopes of getting back to form as their superstar point guard Gilbert Arenas was finally healthy and ready to lead the team back to being a force to be reckoned with. Continue Reading…
Ever since the Boston Celtics won the NBA title against their arch rival Los Angeles Lakers back in 2008, Kevin Garnett and company have failed to reclaim their dominance on the basketball floor as they have been ravaged with injuries.
With KG seemingly never healthy and the rest of the big three failing to pick up the slack in his absence, the Boston Celtics haven’t been able to put healthy team on the floor that could compete for an NBA title. Along with their health issues over the last two seasons, the Celtics have also witnessed the Orlando Magic and the Cleveland Cavaliers quickly rise up the ranks in the Eastern Conference. The rumors appear to be true. The Chicago Cubs have made an addition to their team by signing reliever veteran Bob Howry today.
They will apparently be pro-rating the minimum payout in the Major League to Howry, which is $410,000. The announcement was made Friday just before the Cubs go into a three-game series with the Texas Rangers.
The Cubs are hoping that by signing 36-year-old right-handed Howry, they will be able to help him with his career while he helps them in stabilizing their bullpen as it is in drastic need of help. Continue Reading…
Friday, general manager for the Houston Astros, Ed Wage, confirmed that Roy Oswalt has asked that he be traded from the team. The request has been made earlier this week when Oswalt’s agent, Bob Garber, made a phone call to Drayton McLane, the owner of the Houston Astros, who are currently in last place in the NL Central.
Wade says that he wants three-time NL All-Star Oswalt on the team and wants to win with him on the team. Wade says that they want to win with all the men that are on their team. However, should other possibilities become available, they are willing to look at them. Continue Reading…
