49ers’ Willis Signs $50 Million Five Year Extension Deal
Added May 5th, 2010 by Stacy

Patrick Willis, All Pro linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, has signed a five-year extension that is worth $50 million.  Willis still had two years left in his current rookie contract; however, the 49ers didn’t want to wait to extend the contract.  As of Tuesday, the 49ers now have 25-year-old Willis held captive up to 2016 and Willis is guaranteed $29 million in the five-year deal.

Willis is apparently impressing Coach Mike Singletary a good bit or the deal wouldn’t have been made – especially this early.  Coach Singletary is a linebacker in the Hall of Fame and I’m assuming that putting so much effort into getting Willis to stay with the 49ers that he believes Willis can enter the Hall of Fame as well.  Singletary honestly believes that Willis could turn into a team legend and plans to do everything in his power to take as good of care of him as possible. Jazz’s Kirilenko Won’t See Game 2 But Lakers Bynum Will
Added May 4th, 2010 by Stacy

The Utah Jazz’s Tuesday night game against the Los Angeles Lakes will not see Andrei Kirilenko.  This is Game 2 of the semifinal series for the Utah Western Conference.

Forward Andrei Kirilenko has been out of full play since March 12 when he strained the calf on his left leg.  Last month, he created some aggravation to his injured left calf, which slowed his recovery a bit.

He has initially been listed as “50-50” for Game 2 of the Utah Western Conference and attended a complete practice on Monday and participated in the shoot around on Tuesday morning.  He stated that he didn’t really experience pain in his calf, rather he felt some strength regaining in the muscle. Chris Dickerson, outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds, will be off the field for at least four to six weeks after having multiple surgeries Monday on his hand and wrist.  According to various media reports, Dickerson had the hamate bone within his hand removed during surgery yesterday.  His wrist, since it had been bothering him for quite some time now, was also thoroughly cleaned out, also known as an arthroscopic procedure.

28-year-old Dickerson received his injury last Thursday during the game against Houston where he had caused aggravation to his wrist during a swing.  He was then put on the 15-day disabled list the following day, Friday.  So far during the nine games of this season, Dickerson has batted a .227 and has no RBI’s or homeruns. Last week, we reported that Ryan Madson, reliever for the Philadelphia Phillies, was put on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a broken big toe.  This time on the DL would allow him time for a full recovery from the toe injury.  He gained the injury by kicking a chair last week after being disgusted with himself for blowing a save in the game against San Francisco.  This was his second blown save of the season so he was unhappy with himself.

A CT scan revealed earlier today that Madson’s broken toe was bad enough that he will need to undergo surgery due to further damage to the injury over the course of the weekend (multiple breaks).  After the CT scan, Madson met with a foot specialist, Mr. Raikin, confirmed that the surgery was needed and will be performing the surgery.  His big toe on his right foot will receive surgery on Tuesday at Rothman Institute. Two Linebackers Sign with Jets While Another is Released
Added May 3rd, 2010 by Stacy

The Cowboys aren’t the only team that’s signing undrafted free agents; the Jets are as well.  The Jets have signed two free agents that went undrafted in this year’s 2010 NFL Draft.  The two linebackers that signed with the Jets Monday were Brashton Satele and Cory Reamer.  While two free agents were signed as linebackers, Broderick Stewart, free agent linebacker, was released.

The sign came after the team’s rookie mini-camp this past weekend where both Reamer and Satele received tryouts and very much impressed with the coaches with their skills. Continue Reading…
