Added July 27th, 2010 by Ryan

The Houston Rockets have been one of the better teams in the NBA over the past couple of years with a lot of promise for the future, but even though they had grand plans of becoming NBA champions with both Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming running the show, there plans have changed recently as McGrady has been traded and Yao continues to struggle with injury problems. Celebration Sends Marlins’ Coghlan to DL
Added July 27th, 2010 by Stacy

The Florida Marlins lose their starting left fielder due to a celebration after the team’s 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves Sunday afternoon, which lasted 11 innings.  Following a walk-off win by Wes Helms, Chris Coghlan went to deliver a celebration to Helms with a pie in the face and was injured in the process.  He said that he jumped to shove the pie in Helms face and landed on his knee wrong.

Coghlan was placed on the disabled list Monday after an MRI showed that the left fielder had a torn meniscus in his left knee.  The team is waiting a couple days to determine whether or not his knee needs surgery, but if it does, the lead-off batter will likely be out anywhere from six to eight weeks for full recovery.  If the surgery is not required then he’ll be out about two to three weeks. Bulls and McGrady Doubtful
Added July 27th, 2010 by Stacy

Tracy McGrady, a highly recognized free agent this year that has grasped the headlines of all the major media resources, performed very well in his workout Monday with the Chicago Bulls.  He has recovered well from surgery and is in very decent playing shape physically; however, it’s unlikely that the Bulls will sign him.

The Bulls are looking for someone that can play coming off of the bench.  They are simply not looking for a starter at this time and that is exactly what McGrady is wanting – a starting position.  If he cannot settle for the secondary role then the Bulls will likely not even consider signing the free agent.   Continue Reading…

The past two seasons, Josh Powell has been a backup for the Los Angeles Lakers.  Monday, Powell signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Hawks to provide back up to Atlanta’s Josh Smith as well as Al Horford according to a press release issued by the Hawks.  Specific conditions of the agreement between Powell and the Atlanta Hawks were not immediately disclosed due to team policies.

The 6-foot-9 graduate from Atlanta’s Riverdale High School plays forward/center position and averaged 2.4 rebounds and 3.4 points per game while with the Los Angeles Lakers for two years.  He had an average of 1.8 rebounds and 2.7 points per game during his 63 games with Los Angeles just this past season.  Continue Reading…

Chris Paul will not be seeking at trade from the New Orleans Hornets
Added July 26th, 2010 by Ryan

For the first time in the history of the NBA, the league has continued to get a lot of attention throughout the offseason and the popularity of the game could be at an all time high.

Even though the NBA might not be getting as much attention as it did when Michael Jordan ruled the world of professional sports, it is getting pretty close, especially with all the hype and media attention all the big-name free agents have gotten this summer. Continue Reading…

Offseason 2010 NFL Power Rankings
Added July 26th, 2010 by Ryan

#1 Indianapolis Colts

Peyton Manning and company had one hell of a season last year as they were able finish the regular season with a 14-2 record and make it all the way to the Super Bowl to face the New Orleans Saints.

Unfortunately, Drew Brees and his crew got the best of the Colts in the Super Bowl, but heading into next season Indianapolis are the unanimous decision for #1 in the NFL power rankings. Continue Reading…

Haren Acquired by Angels Sunday; Debut Monday
Added July 26th, 2010 by Stacy

As deadline week nears, the first trade came this past Sunday afternoon when the Los Angeles Angels acquired Dan Haren for 29-year-old Joe Saunders from the Arizona Diamondbacks as well as three other baseball players – 21-year-old Patrick Corbin, 25-year-old Rafael Rodriguez with the third player being revealed at a later date, whom many believe may very well be pitcher Tyler Skaggs.

Haren has started 21 games this year and is currently 7-8 with a 4.60 earned run average.  He was one of the top prospects for the non-waiver trade July 31 deadline.  In the past five seasons, Haren has been with Arizona as well as Oakland, and has successfully pitched over 200 innings and claimed a victory in a minimum of 14 games leaving him at 16-8 with an earned run average of 3.33.  More than that, he’s a an All-Star of three times. The Dallas Cowboys are arguably one of the most storied franchises in the NFL today and even though they haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1996, America’s Team always have a lot of pressure on them to win another title every single season.

Last season was somewhat of a do or die situation for the Dallas Cowboys as heads were almost certainly going to roll if the team was unable to make the playoffs and win at least one game in the postseason. Fortunately, they were able to win the NFC East title, cruise into the playoffs and beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round, but were ultimately knocked out by the Minnesota Vikings in the next round. A-Rod Hit by Pitch Causing 600th Home Run to be Put on Hold
Added July 25th, 2010 by Stacy

Alex Rodriguez is working on making his 600th career home run and was initially hoping to put an end to that quest while playing at the Yankees home field. Rodriguez has been trying for this 600th home run milestone since July 22. However, that quest was put on hold after being hit by a pitch on his left hand and forearm – just barely missing his face after it ricocheted off his forearm and probably would have had Rodriguez not turned away from the plate. The 95-mph fastball pitch was thrown by rookie pitcher Blake Wood of the Kansas City Royals during the bottom of Sunday’s eight inning.

Rodriguez was able to finish the game against Kansas City Sunday at his home field, which was a victory for the Yankees 12-6.  The win also leaves the New York Yankees with baseball’s best record at 62-35.  The Yankees are currently ahead Tampa Bay just three games in the American League East.
