The Dallas Cowboys and their first round draft pick Dez Bryant have agreed to terms of a five-year contract that is worth $11.8 total with $8.5 of that guaranteed.
Bryant is a wide receiver that was chosen in the first round as the 24th draft pick overall in the 2010 NFL Draft back in April. Bryant, who was drafted from Oklahoma State, is the first player to sign with a team out of the first round draft picks.
The signing of Bryant comes just in time for him to be able to start training camp, which commences in San Antonio this Saturday, July 24. The Dallas Cowboys are the first NFL team to open their training camp this year. Continue Reading…
In an effort to strengthen their team’s offense Thursday, the Angels made a move that leaded to the gain from the Royals of Alberto Callaspo in exchange for two pitchers: left-hander Will Smith and right-hander Sean O’Sullivan.
The upcoming start of a four game series against the Rangers, who are the front-runners in the American League West division, the three-time champion of the AL West division needed to step up their game in hopes of regaining that title this year.
Callaspo is a 27-year-old switch-hitter that hit his career high in the 2009 season when he had 11 home runs and 73 runs batted in when batting a .300. This season with the Royals, Callaspo is currently hitting a .275 with 8 home runs and 43 runs batted in. Continue Reading…
The NBA offseason has been arguably the most action packed of any offseason in the NBA in the history of the league. Not only were there a lot of big-name free agents available to the highest bidder this summer with a handful of teams clearing enormous amounts of cap space to sign them, but there have also been plenty of trades that have gone down as well.
Obviously, the highlight of the NBA offseason this summer was the Miami Heat signing three of the biggest free agents available in Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and most notably LeBron James. This was unprecedented to say the least as not since the days of the ’04 Los Angeles Lakers (Shaq, Kobe Bryant, Gary Payton and Karl Malone) have we seen so many superstars joining forces on the same team. The 2010 NBA offseason is almost over in terms of big-name players signing new contracts and officially taking themselves off the free agent market, but the majority of the league already scrambling to figure out a way to compete against the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers and the revamped Miami Heat, next year’s offseason might be just as significant as another big three could potentially be on the horizon.
This summer the New York Knicks did everything within their power to try and bring in some big-name talent like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and or Chris Bosh. Obviously, they failed as all three of these superstars ended up signing with the Miami Heat and creating the league’s newest superpower, but they were able to get their hands on one of the best big men in the game in the form of Amare Stoudemire. This will not help them out with the online sportsbooks for the 2011 NBA futures betting. Continue Reading…
Earlier in the week, the consensus was that the free agent small forward Matt Barnes was going to be headed to the Toronto Raptors in a sign-and-trade deal with the Orlando Magic. The deal seemed set in stone, so much so, that Barnes posted on his Twitter account that he will be playing in Toronto next season.
Unfortunately, the deal hit a snag and ultimately fell apart as certain financial elements of the deal just didn’t work out. Now Barnes will be thrown back into the free agent market, but he has no lack of suitors as five teams are reportedly interested in signing the versatile forward. Continue Reading…
This past MLB off-season, the Baltimore Orioles signed closer Mike Gonzalez to a $12 million, two-year deal. He isn’t a stranger to receiving “boos” especially when he blew two saves during three outings. Right now, though, his main focus is being the most effective closer that he can possibly be for his entire team now that he has been activated from the 60-day disabled list. Official announcement for this move was made prior to the O’s game Wednesday against Tampa Bay. Continue Reading…
The Minnesota Vikings were arguably one of the best teams in the NFL last season as they were able to bring a great balance of dominant offense and lockdown defense which led them all the way to the NFC Championship game.
Unfortunately, the Minnesota Vikings fell just short in overtime against the eventual Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints and missed out on a Super Bowl appearance. Despite heading home after one of the best season’s in franchise history, the Vikings had high hopes for the future as they have arguably one of the best running backs in the league in Adrian Peterson, a promising young receiving corps led by Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin and of course the ageless Brett Favre behind center. The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off their second straight NBA title and absolutely loving the much needed time off this summer, but there is one player that is still licking his wounds as he limped his way into the NBA offseason.
Even though Andrew Bynum was mentioned in a few trade scenarios throughout the regular season, playoffs and into the offseason, the young center is still a member of the Los Angeles Lakers for the time being, but he is dealing with a knee injury that will require surgery once again. Tuesday night, negotiations between Kyle Parker and the Colorado Rockies seemed to have failed. It now appears that Parker will be returning to Clemson as the starting quarterback for 2010.
Last season, as a freshman at Clemson, Park successfully threw 20 touchdowns and was a first round draft pick in the 2010 MLB draft in June. He had apparently been discussing serious deals with the Colorado Rockies in order to join the team. Had he signed with the Rockies, he would have signed as an outfielder and it would have been a baseball only contract. Continue Reading…
Over the past half decade or so, no team in the NFL has been more of a disappointment than the Oakland Raiders. No matter what this storied NFL franchise tries to do through the NFL Draft, free agency or via trade, the Oakland Raiders always seem to make the wrong decision and have ultimately become one of the worst teams in the league.
