A few years ago, the majority of the teams around the league would have loved to have had Shaquille O’Neal on their squad and patrolling the paint. AT one point in time, Shaq was the most dominant force in the NBA and literally could not be stopped in the paint once he had the basketball in his hands. Not only was Shaq a dominant force on offense, but he could also get it done on the defensive end of the basketball floor.

These days, Shaq is no longer the most dominant center in the league as age has really started to catch up with the big fella, but despite his best years being behind him, the four-time NBA champion can still play and help a team win an NBA title. Continue Reading…

Chris Johnson agrees to deal for 2010 with the Tennessee Titans
Added July 19th, 2010 by Scott

Last season the Tennessee Titans had a roster coaster ride of a season as they started the year with six straight losses and seemed to be headed to a very disappointing season. Fortunately, the Titans played brilliantly in the second half of the season as they were able to win eight of the next ten games.

Needless to say, this was one hell of a turn around for a team that seemed destined to fail last season, but after Titans head coach Jeff Fisher decided to bench veteran quarterback Kerry Collins and start Vince Young in his place, this turned out the be turning point in the season for Tennessee. Coming into the NBA offseason, the Chicago Bulls were one of the few teams in the league that had enough money to bring in multiple big-name free agents. Unfortunately, the Bulls were unable to bring in big-names like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Amare Stoudemire or Chris Bosh, but they still were able to sign one big-name in former All-Star forward Carlos Boozer. Padres Placed Latos, Adams to DL
Added July 16th, 2010 by Stacy

Two pitchers of the San Diego Padres have been placed on the 14-day disabled list Friday.  Both Mat Latos (pictured) and Mike Adams will not be participating in the upcoming games.

Latos won’t see any field action until he recovers from a left strained oblique muscle that he suffered when he – wait for it – tried to keep from sneezing!  Yes, it’s apparently true that you can strain your oblique muscle by doing this.  Latos isn’t the first as Sammy Sosa encountered the same experience years ago.  This injury occurred this a week ago in Colorado.  He is retroactive for two and a half weeks until July 9.  In his 17 starts this MLB season, the right-handed pitcher has a 2.45 ERA and is currently 10-4. It’s true – the Celts have re-signed unrestricted free agent Nate Robinson.  The point guard signed a two-year contract Friday that will average a salary of about $4 million per season.  There are also potential incentives and bonuses for the point guard if he can live up to the terms.  Robinson is being signed as a back-up to starter Rajon Rondo but can bring a lot to the table as the back-up.

Robinson was originally acquired by the Celtics back in February from New York as a part of a prestigious five-player trade and played his very first game as a Boston Celtic on February 23, 2010.  Robinson is most popularly known by winning two titles consecutively – NBA Slam Dunk titles at that, but holds three of these titles.   Continue Reading…

MLB National League Second Half Preview
Added July 15th, 2010 by Stacy

Fresh from their league’s first All-Star game victory in 14 years, teams across the national league are energized to take the home field advantage in the World Series. But first, they have to get there. Across the league, no second place team is further than four games off the pace, which should make for a fight to the finish from west to east.

Everyone’s wondering: Just how have the San Diego Padres done it? How have they taken what looks on paper to be a mediocre lineup and put themselves ahead of the pack in the NL West? The answer is pitching, pitching and more pitching. Leaders in ERA, opponent’s batting average and runs allowed, the San Diego hurlers have been stingy up to this point, and their mastery is going to need to continue, because they’ve got three teams breathing down their neck. MLB American League Second Half Preview
Added July 15th, 2010 by Stacy

American League teams are now staring at the specter of playing primarily in the enemy’s park should they make it to the World Series, after losing the All-Star Game 3-1. Controversy still royals around whether the raised stakes have been good for the MLB, but teams are now putting that behind them and looking ahead to the second half of the 2010 season.

Judging by the standings around the American League, the next couple months should be entertaining indeed. The Rangers’ 4 ½-game lead over the Angels is the biggest in the major leagues. Even though the team’s owners are bankrupt, they recently acquired Cliff Lee from Seattle to help keep them ahead of the Los Angeles Angels, who have been struggling lately and will need an offensive jolt if they’re going to entertain notions of playing in October. Cavaliers Offer Sheet Matched by Houston Rockets to Keep Kyle Lowry
Added July 14th, 2010 by Stacy

The Cavaliers may have wanted to acquire Kyle Lowry but that was brief.  As soon as the Houston Rockets decided to match their offer sheet for Lowry, the Rockets were able to keep Kyle Lowry on their team.

The offer that the Cavaliers signed to Lowry was a four-year deal worth $24 million Tuesday evening – apparently, it was a three-year deal with options in the fourth year.  The Rockets had exactly one week to match this offer or just let Lowry head to an opposing team.  Obviously, Houston decided to match the offer to keep Lowry in a Rockets’ jersey and it didn’t even take them an entire day to do so.
