With only hours until kickoff of Super Bowl XLV, millions are hitting their favorite online sportsbook and making that last minute wager on the biggest game of the year. While the spread has remained pretty stable over the week, with it ending in a +3 Steelers -3 Packers. Some of the other lines have fluctuated a little.

The Moneyline on the game shows Pittsburg at +115 and Green Bay at -135 at Bodog, and  Pittsburg at +115 and Green Bay at -135 at DSI Diamond Sportsbook – which is about the same among the most popular sportsbooks. Continue Reading…

Green Bay Packers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Sun. Feb. 6, 2011 6:29 p.m. EST

The big game has finally arrived as the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers are set to do battle on the NFL’s biggest stage in Arlington, Texas at Cowboys Stadium.

With two full weeks filled with anticipation, hype and endless media coverage this game has been dissected and analyzed to death. Even though many people have made a case for both of these teams coming out on top in Super Bowl XLV, the Green Bay Packers have seemed to tilt the scales as they are favored with a -2.5 point spread heading into Super Bowl Sunday. Heading into Super Bowl Sunday, one of the main things the Green Bay Packers will be concerned about is whether or not they can run the football against the best run defense in the NFL. With the Pittsburgh Steelers defense being nearly impossible to run against during the regular season and the playoffs, Packers’ running back James Starks will have his work cut out for him when he does get the football as he will struggle to get even a few yards from scrimmage.

Fortunately, the Packers offense thrives on the passing game as quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the league in getting all his wide receivers involved. So with Rodgers most likely throwing the pigskin all over the football field, it probably won’t even matter whether or not the Green Bay Packers have a running game. Continue Reading…

Coming into Super Bowl XLV there is no shortage of things to bet on as oddsmakers have almost every part of the game broken down to a science and put a spread or money line on it. The one thing I find really intriguing to lay your money down on the sides the spread (-3 Green Bay Packers) and the over/under (over 44.5) is on which team will score the first touchdown.

Obviously, this is something that might not even happen in a football game, especially with two great defense is like the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite having a great defense, a great offense is sometimes better in the long run as a team like the Packers can’t have the ability to score a moment’s notice against any opposing defense. The defense of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers is getting a lot of press leading up to so Super Bowl XLV and that it should as they are two of the best defenses in the NFL today. Despite this being the fact, I believe the offense of these two teams is gone overlooked which could be costly as Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense could be the difference in the game. There is a lot of hype that surrounds the Super Bowl every single year and they’re always players they get singled out as the supposedly “x-factor” or difference between winning and losing. In Super Bowl XLV, the two players that might turn out to be the X. factor for the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are arguably two of the best defensive players in the league in Clay Matthews and Troy Polamalu.

Ironically enough, both of these NFL superstars are former USC players under head coach Pete Carroll. It is uncertain whether or not Clay Matthews would be the kind of star he is today, but obviously at this point in time it seems to have a very bright future in the NFL. Continue Reading…

Along with the defense getting all the headlines for a Super Bowl XLV, the offense of the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers might surprise some people as there are some extremely talented players at the quarterback position for both teams.

Even though Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has already won two Super Bowl titles and played in the big game just two years ago, Aaron Rodgers is amongst the best quarterbacks in the league right now and is playing at an extremely high level coming into this Super Bowl XLV matchup. Super Bowl XLV is just days away and the media coverage has gotten to fever pitch at this point with the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers being surrounded with media attention 24/7.

Even though a lot is being made about the battle of the quarterbacks in this Super Bowl matchup with Aaron Rodgers going head-to-head with Ben Roethlisberger, the defense of the Packers and the Steelers is what will steal the show on Super Bowl Sunday as Clay Matthews and Troy Polamalu try to lead their team to victory. The spread for Super Bowl XLV fluctuate a little bit last week when the Green Bay Packers are favored by -3 and then I got put down to -2.5, depending on the NFL football betting site your looking at. That spread is pretty reasonable as this game should be a close hard-fought battle from start to finish with most likely a game-winning field goal being the deciding factor.

Even though everyone is expecting this game should be won and lost on the defensive side of the football, I believe we might see more offense than people are anticipating. There’s no question that the Green Bay Packers are the better team on offense with players like perennial Pro bowl quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Greg Jennings, but the Pittsburgh Steelers are a team that has flown under the radar offensively with their studs on offense in two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and running back Rashard Mendenhall. The one thing that has everyone talking heading into Super Bowl XLV is:

Which team has the better defense?

There is no question that the Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the most dominant defenses in the NFL for quite some time now as they have players like Troy Polamalu and James Harrison striking fear in opposing running backs and quarterbacks, but whether or not they are collectively better than the Green Bay Packers on that side of the football remains to be seen.
