The busiest team in the NFL during the offseason and throughout the preseason has been the Philadelphia Eagles. Not only did Andy Reid and company add multiple Pro Bowlers to their already talented roster via free agency and through a blockbuster trade (Kevin Kolb deal), but now the Eagles have come to an agreement on a contract extension for superstar quarterback Michael Vick.
Once the NFL lockout ended, the Philadelphia Eagles number one priority was to re-sign Michael Vick and then trade backup quarterback Kevin Kolb. The end result may have been dealing Kolb first and signing Vick later, but the Eagles were able to achieve both of these goals and secure the team’s future at quarterback for at least the next six years. Over the past couple of seasons, the Houston Texans have become a team on the rise in the NFL with one of the best offenses in the NFL both on the ground and through the air. Before last season, the Texans depended solely on their passing game to score touchdowns due to their weak backfield, but then in came up-and-coming running back Arian Foster.
Last season Arian Foster burst onto the scene in the NFL and quickly became one of the best running backs in the league. With a potent running game and a dominant passing game led by Pro Bowlers Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson, the Houston Texans became a legitimate playoff team and threatened to beat out the Indianapolis Colts for the AFC South division title. The Indianapolis Colts could be in serious trouble heading into the upcoming NFL regular season as they might have to start the year without their superstar quarterback Peyton Manning under center. It is no secret that Peyton Manning is the Indianapolis Colts’ offense and without him the team will almost certainly struggle offensively.
With no dominant rushing attack in the Colts backfield, Indianapolis lives and dies by the passing game. Without the four-time NFL MVP, the offense will be extremely poor and unable to compete with any team in the AFC South in my opinion. Continue Reading…
New England Patriots @ Detroit Lions Sat. Aug. 27, 2011 8 p.m. EST
The NFL regular season couldn’t get here sooner for the New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions as these are two eager football teams ready to showcase their new talented players this year.
The New England Patriots ended last season on a sour note with a loss to the division rival New York Jets in the playoffs, but Tom Brady and company were arguably the best team in the league during the regular season and will look to replicate that this season. With the addition of Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Ochocinco and Pro Bowl defense tackle Albert Haynesworth, the New England Patriots should be an even better all-around team this year with a focus on playing some hardnosed defense that was sorely lacking last year. Green Bay Packers @ Indianapolis Colts Fri. Aug. 26, 2011 8 p.m. EST
Usually the NFL preseason is pretty pointless for most of the Super Bowl title contenders around the NFL as they already have their rosters intact and starters decided upon, but this time around is could be crucial for the perennial title contending Indianapolis Colts. Continue Reading…
The Terrell Pryor saga in Oakland has officially begun as the Oakland Raiders have now signed the former Ohio State quarterback to a four-year contract. This contract was basically agreed upon in principle once the rookie quarterback was drafted in the NFL supplemental draft, but now it has been signed and Pryor has joined the team. Continue Reading…
The Arizona Cardinals have made some crucial moves during the NFL offseason in order to secure some key players to their franchise for at least the next five to eight years. The number one goal for the Arizona Cardinals after the NFL lockout ended was to make the trade for quarterback Kevin Kolb from the Philadelphia Eagles. Once they traded for Kolb and signed him to a lucrative contract extension, the Cardinals main focus was directed at superstar wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Continue Reading…
Cleveland Browns @ Philadelphia Eagles Thurs. Aug. 24, 2011 7:30 p.m. EST
During the NFL preseason so far, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns have been perhaps the two teams in the league that people have talked about the most. With the Eagles signing multiple Pro Bowlers during the offseason, the pressure is on in Philly for Michael Vick and company to contend for a Super Bowl title. Continue Reading…
The biggest concern for the Indianapolis Colts over the past couple of months and during the current NFL preseason has been the health and recovery of four-time NFL MVP quarterback Peyton Manning. With Manning’s rehab taking much longer than predicted to come back from surgery that he had on his neck, the Colts have been very concerned about their quarterback situation with the NFL regular season just around the corner. Continue Reading…
Once the NFL lockout was officially over, the Miami Dolphins were a team actively looking to improve their squad on the offensive side of the football. The quarterback position was their first priority as Chad Henne hasn’t really turned out to be the kind of leader under center that they expected him to be and there were definitely some free agent options around the league at the quarterback position.
