Patrick McDonnell, the acting secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, says his agency is also monitoring the growing number of Zika cases in Pennsylvania.
Officials in Florida on Tuesday confirmed another case of Zika virus that was likely transmitted locally, this time on the opposite side of the state from the hard-hit Miami area.
"I want everybody to know knowledgeable", Scott said. Though the Zika virus has primarily been a concern for pregnant women - Zika is known to cause birth defects - a new study suggests that the virus may attack adult brain cells as well. Experts are concerned that the existence of multiple vectors could spread a virus that could otherwise be contained in specific geographic areas.
In addition, the Florida Department of Health reported an additional 15 new travel related cases today, including five in Orange, four in Miami-Dade, three in Osceola, one in Collier, one in Pinellas and one involving a pregnant woman.
Although the Zika outbreak has been centered in Brazil, dozens of other regions have reported active transmission of the virus.
Because data from the Zika epidemic in South America indicate that just one out of 100 babies exposed to Zika in the womb develop microcephaly, a case linked to locally transmitted Zika is statistically unlikely to occur in the United States given the relatively few pregnant women expected to be exposed, Longini said.
"We are also interested in investigating how congenital Zika virus infection can interfere with not only prenatal, but also postnatal gray and white brain maturation", Tovar-Moll said. One of the two species of mosqutioes that carries the virus is found in the state, but local transmission is highly unlikely.
Biden says only American court can make decision on Gulen's extradition
Yildirim said if the process of extraditing Gulen is expedited, Turkish people's disappointment would be dispelled "very quickly". I believe they mean what they say. "None", he said. "But we need to meet the legal standard requirement under our law".
That is because the mosquitoes that carry it, the Aedes aegypti, are slow, and do not fly very far or live very long.
The rise in local transmissions is grabbing attention now. A total of 42 people have been infected with Zika in Florida since the outbreak began. The person, which was identified only as a woman, did not travel outside the county, and medical officials believe she contracted the virus through a mosquito bite.
The U.S. government, Clinton added, should also be better prepared for threats from biological weapons and from climate change, which she said could expand the reach of water-borne illnesses and infections such as Lyme disease.
Florida is home to popular tourist destinations like Walt Disney World.
Officials say that 479 Floridians are now infected with Zika, 63 of whom are pregnant women.
More than 15.5 million people made overnight visits to Miami and nearby beaches in 2015, with an impact of $24.4 billion on the local economy, according to figures from the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau.
