The Denver Broncos suffered a major blow this Wednesday when they learned that their Pro Bowl linebacker and arguably best defensive player in outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil would miss the next four months with a torn pectoral muscle.

This was bad news to say the least for the Broncos as they had just signed Dumervil to a huge contract extension over the next five years worth about $58 million dollars and an unprecedented $43 million guaranteed over the length of the contract. Not only was this an enormous contract, but it was one of the biggest contracts in team history and now with this injury it must feel like a punch in the gut to the Denver Broncos brass.

Even though they probably won’t have Elvis Dumervil on the roster for the majority of next season as he most likely won’t be able to play until at least November, life must move on for the Denver Broncos as they have to get through this adversity and try to make it to the playoffs. Along with Dumervil headed to the injury list, the Broncos have already had both of their best running backs injured in second-year man Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) and Correll Buckhalter (back) who went down in the first day of training camp.

Fortunately, the Broncos have signed former Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White to fill the void for the time being.

Needless to say though, next season will be another rough one for the Denver Broncos as they will have a lot of unproven players on the gridiron trying to lead this storied NFL franchise back into the playoffs. If that weren’t bad enough, the quarterback position in the Mile High city will also get a lot of attention after trading for Brady Quinn and drafting Tim Tebow in the offseason.
