Edson Alvarez Sign £35.4M With West Ham

West Ham confirmed on Thursday that it has signed Mexican midfielder Edson Lvarez from Ajax on a five-year contract.

Although West Ham withheld financial details, Ajax reported that the two clubs had agreed to a transfer fee of €38 million ($41.90 million), which may rise to €41 million with add-ons.

West Ham boss David Moyes expressed his excitement about adding Edson to the team after making his first acquisition during the summer transfer window.

Edson will enhance the other alternatives we have in the midfield, which was an area we were very eager to bolster this summer.

He is an accomplished international athlete who has achieved considerable success thus far in his career for both club and country.

Since his arrival in 2019, the 25-year-old has made 147 appearances, appearing in 13 goals across all competitions, and has twice assisted Ajax in winning the Eredivisie.

Lvarez has 69 Mexican national team appearances, including appearances at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

His arrival will benefit the Hammers after they traded England midfielder Declan Rice to Arsenal for a record-breaking £105 million — the most ever paid between two British clubs.
