According to some media reports, the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to let go John Henderson today from the team.  Henderson is a former Pro Bowl and was the team’s defensive tackle.  Henderson has been with the Jaguars and only the Jaguars for his entire NFL career, which he started by being drafted by the Jaguars in 2002.  He has been a starting defensive tackle since the 2002 draft and has played every game in these past eight seasons except for four of them.  Henderson’s contract still had $11 million and two years remaining.  The Jaguars felt at ease enough to release Henderson as well as his contract and rely very heavily on the rookies that were chosen early in the NFL Draft last week.

The Jacksonville Jaguars scooped two defensive tackles in the draft this past week with the first being the 10th overall pick in the first round being defensive tackle Tyson Alualu from California.  The second defensive tackle was their second draft pick in the third round being defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith from Louisiana Tech.  By choosing these two defensive tackles early in the draft, it showed that the team was ready to move away from Henderson and move forward with new prospects.  Was this a good move for the Jaguars or will Jacksonville regret their decision once the season has commenced?

John Henderson, upon official release from the Jacksonville Jaguars, will be free to sign with any NFL team since he will be known as an unrestricted free agent.  Prior to the draft weekend, a couple teams had shown a bit of interest in Henderson – New York Giants and the Cleveland Browns.  Will either of them step up and try to acquire John Henderson for the 2010 NFL season?  What team do you think would be a good fit for Henderson?
