Yesterday, the Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a contract with quarterback Kevin Kolb for a one-year extension.  This means that the contract will remain intact through next year’s season, 2011.  This specific contract will guarantee more than $12 million to Kolb over the course of the next two years.  Specific details of the contract extension have not yet been disclosed but Kolb made an official announcement on Thursday afternoon at the team’s training facility.

When Donovan McNabb was traded from the Eagles to the Washington Redskins, Kevin Kolb became the Eagles’ starter.  Kolb is a three-year veteran and the Eagles believe that he can withstand command.

25-year-old Kolb has proven that he can uphold the quarterback position when needed.  Last year when the Eagles played against Carolina, McNabb was injured and Kolb stepped in to take his position as quarterback in the game.

Three-year veteran Kevin Kolb has spent his three years in the NFL with the Eagles.  He was the second round draft pick by the Eagles in 2007.  He then went on to make a record being the first NFL quarterback to be able to throw for 300 yards within his first two starts.

Kolb has had a great year so far.  He was moved up to quarterback when McNabb was traded at the beginning of April.  Kolb’s wife gave birth to Atley, their second daughter a few days later.  Now, there is this deal with the Eagles – definitely something to put a smile on Kolb’s face and make him feel special.

Kolb has always played in the shadow of McNabb, but now with him off to the Redskins, it gives Kolb an opportunity to show what he can do for the Philadelphia Eagles.  I am sure he will not waste any time doing so either and I am positive that this was a good move for the Eagles.
