Arguably one of the best teams in the NFL over the past decade or so has been Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots. With three Super Bowl titles and one of the best quarterbacks of all-time behind center in Tom Brady, the Patriots have just dominated the AFC East division and the AFC Conference for that matter, but they have struggled as of late as teams around the league have gotten younger and better over time.

Last season ended in disappointment for the New England Patriots as they were knocked out of the playoffs much earlier than anticipated by a motivated Baltimore Ravens team that just ran all around the Patriots defense with one of the league’s best young running backs in Ray Rice.

This domination by the Ravens running game was a serious wakeup call for the Patriots as it was no longer going to be easy to cruise to the Super Bowl and beat the best of the best in the AFC Conference.

With Tom Brady behind center the New England Patriots will always have a shot to contend for a Super Bowl title, but the five-time Pro Bowler is on the verge of a contract extension and even though it is a no brainer that the Patriots will re-sign Brady, the contract talks have gone longer than anticipated.

No matter what happens, Tom Brady has said that he will be in uniform to start the season for the Patriots, but the terms of this new deal and how many years it will include is the real question.

Apparently, Brady wants to play for another 10 years which means he wants to be in the NFL until the ripe old age of 43 so he can do his best Brett Favre impression, but that may be what is holding the Patriots back from proposing a new deal for the gunslinger.

Tom Brady is set to make $6.5 million next year which is the last year on his current contract.
