Throughout the entire NFL regular season thus far, the Houston Texans have been as advertised with a 9-3 record and a six-game winning streak coming into Week 14. Even though the Texans could win the AFC South division title this weekend with a win over the Cincinnati Bengals and a loss by the Tennessee Titans to the New Orleans Saints, things have gotten extremely complicated for the Texans coaching staff as of late with multiple season-ending injuries at the quarterback position.

After franchise quarterback Matt Schaub went down with a broken foot, the Texans weren’t terribly concerned as they had Matt Leinart backing him up. Unfortunately, despite what was turning out to be a solid performance for Leinart in his debut with the Texans, the former Heisman trophy winner went down with a broken collarbone that will keep him out the rest of the season as well.

With the Texans quarterbacks running thin, the Houston franchise had to turn to rookie T.J. Yates and shortly thereafter signed veteran Jake Delhomme as his backup. Even though Delhomme is a viable backup and might end up being the starter in the coming weeks, the Texans weren’t satisfied and now has signed 41-year-old veteran Jeff Garcia as their third quarterback on the depth chart.

Despite not playing a single game since 2008, the Houston Texans were confident that Jeff Garcia gives them the depth at quarterback that they need heading into the playoffs. This was a smart move in my opinion as going after Donovan McNabb or Brett Favre could have been risky and created a media distraction that this team doesn’t need moving forward.

Regardless of their current quarterback situation, the Houston Texans bound to make his this season by winning the AFC South division title and clinching a playoff spot for the first time in franchise history.

“If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” Well Schaub brought them to 7-3, don’t be an idiot. Seriously, you must have water in your brain if you want to start Yates over Schaub…

Despite what people say, Yates made the plays he needed to make and beat a Bengals team that really needed a win. I’d leave the kid in and let him play. They may have Delhomme or Garcia for the present, but Yates is the future, even with the return of Schaub next year. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

garcia is one of the toughest qbs out there, he is a winner, put him in now

If Garcia sees the field he will win,,, the guy is a gamer!! i would trust him in a playoff game far beyond Yates and Delhomme

    Great signing
