The New England Patriots and their first round NFL Draft pick Devin McCourty have come to terms on a five-year deal that is worth a maximum of $13.2 million.  Bonuses and guarantees come to a sum of nearly $8 million.

McCourty, who will play as the Patriots cornerback and played college ball at Rutgers, was the 27th overall draft pick in this year’s 2010 NFL draft.  The New England Patriots had a total of 12 draftees to sign and McCourty was the last one that had not signed a contract with the team.  It also makes the New England Patriots one of the four teams that have signed all of their draft picks with the other three teams being Dallas, Chicago, and Carolina.  The Patriots begin their initial training camp practice this Thursday and it is likely that McCourty will be there with the rest of the team.

As a freshman in college at Rutgers, McCourty played all 13 games in 2006 at which time he recorded a total of 38 tackles as well as 2 interceptions.  The next year, he and his twin brother Jason, who now plays for the Tennessee Titans, both started at cornerback, at which time Devin recorded 63 tackles as well as 2 interceptions.  He also recorded a single forced fumble.  For his junior season in 2008, Devin recorded 57 tackles and a single interception in addition to a blocked punt.  His final season was in 2009 at Rutgers at which time he started as the cornerback for 13 games.  He reached his career-high with 80 tackles in addition to a single interception and 10 pass deflections.

We informed you a few days ago that Cowboys first round draft pick, Dez Bryant, had signed a contract and I said that it would be the domino effect of other first round draft picks to come.  McCourty was also a first round draft pick and is now the second one to agree to and sign a contract with an NFL team.
