AFC Divisional Round: Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers Sat. Jan. 15th 2011 4:30pm EST
The AFC North division came down to the wire this season as the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens battled it out all year long and both finished the season with identical 12-4 records. Even though the Ravens put up a solid record and finished the regular season as arguably one of the best teams in the league, the Steelers won the division title and clinched a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Unfortunately for the Ravens, despite finishing with the same record as the Steelers, they had to go on road in the first round of the playoffs to take on the AFC West division champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Although the Chiefs became a team on the rise in the NFL this season, the Ravens absolutely dominated Matt Cassel and company by blowing out this up and coming squad 30-7. Not only did this dominant victory prove that the Ravens are for real and ready to contend for a Super Bowl title, but it also set up another epic matchup between heated division rivals as they will face off against the Steelers in the Divisional round.
As of right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been given the edge in this matchup as they will have a -3 point spread in their favor against the Baltimore Ravens.
Even though this matchup is relatively even in my opinion as these two division rivals have some of the league’s best defenses and have played well on the offensive side of the football this season, I believe the Baltimore Ravens are the better all around team coming into this playoff showdown between division rivals.
There is no doubt in my mind that this will be a close game as both teams will be bringing their A game, but in the end I see the Ravens getting the best of the Steelers and advancing to the AFC Conference championship to face either the New York Jets or the New England Patriots.
