AFC Championship Game: New York Jets @ Pittsburgh Steelers Sun. Jan. 23rd 2011 6:30pm EST

This weekend in the NFL playoffs we have two very intriguing matchups, but perhaps the most intriguing will be the New York Jets traveling to Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

These two teams have two of the best defenses in the league this season with the ability just completely shut down potent offenses. The Steelers may have the best run defense in the league this year with superstar Troy Polamalu being a running back’s worst nightmare, but the Jets have one of the best all around defenses with Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis intimidating opposing quarterbacks.

Even though the Pittsburgh Steelers played extremely well last weekend against the division rival Baltimore Ravens, I believe the New York Jets have been arguably the best team in the playoffs so far as they have been able to beat both the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots in consecutive weeks.

Not only has it been impressive that the Jets have gotten the best of the Colts and Patriots in two straight games, but they face two of arguably the best cornerbacks of all-time in Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. These are two guys that do not go down easily, but the Jets defense gave them as much trouble as they never had to deal with in the playoffs.

With that being said, I believe that two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will have to earn his money this Sunday as he will have his work cut out for him going up against Darrelle Revis and this lockdown defense.

Over the past couple of seasons, the New York Jets have been primarily a running football team that is defended completely on the ground game for their offense, but this year their offense is vastly improved with the addition of running back LaDainian Tomlinson and former Steelers wideout Santonio Holmes.

With these two players playing in a high level once again, I believe the Jets will advance to the Super Bowl this year as they have a never say die attitude that might be enough to leave them past the Steelers.
