Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints Thurs. Sept. 9th 8:30pm EST
Perhaps the most anticipated matchup to open the NFL regular season this year will be the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints taking on Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings in a rematch of last season’s NFC championship game.
The odds on this game vary a little, but Bodog has the Saints favored by 6 points while Diamond Sportsbook, a leader in online sportsbooks has the Saints at -5, meaning favored by 5 points.
Even though the Minnesota Vikings will limp into this matchup against the defending champs as they will be without their best wide receiver Sidney Rice (hip) and reigning Offensive Rookie of Year wideout Percy Harvin is still dealing with severe migraines, Brett Favre and company are still confident they can get revenge for losing in overtime in the playoffs last year.
The New Orleans Saints on the other hand will be healthy with relatively the same championship caliber team intact and ready to beat Brad Childress’ squad for a second straight time.
Along with the fact that you will see two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks going head to head in Drew Brees and Brett Favre, the most intriguing part of this NFL season opener will be the Vikings defense trying to stop the potent offense of the Saints.
During the NFC championship game these two elite teams were in a shootout with the last team with the football being the most likely winner, but this time around it will be the New Orleans Saints struggling to score against the Minnesota Vikings defense which will be making up for their problems on offense.
In my opinion, there is no clear cut favorite in this one as either team could very well come out on top and start their season with a 1-0 record, but with the Vikings being a bit banged up and the Saints looking to prove that they have what it takes to repeat as Super Bowl champs I would say the scales title in the defending champs favor. If your looking for a good NFL football betting sportsbook, check out Bodog as they are known around the world as the best.
