Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants Sun. Jan. 1, 2012 8:20 p.m. EST
Two division titles will be on the line in the final week of the NFL regular season with the Oakland Raiders and the Denver Broncos battling it out for the AFC West crown and the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants fighting for a playoff spot via the NFC East division title. These two divisions always seem to come down to the last week of the season, but whoever comes on the NFC East might be a Super Bowl title contender unlike the AFC West division champion.
One thing that makes this NFC East division showdown for all the marbles that much more intriguing is the injury to superstar quarterback Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys. With Romo’s hand getting banged up in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week, the Cowboys’ quarterback had to watch from the sidelines for the rest of the game with his playing status up in the air against the New York Giants on New Year’s Eve.
Fortunately for Dallas, Tony Romo has been cleared to play and is seemingly good to go against the division rival Giants on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. This is great news for the Cowboys moving forward, but whether or not Romo will be able to throw accurately during this game for the NFC East crown remains to be seen.
Despite the injury to Tony Romo’s throwing hand and the potential of backup Stephen McGee coming in to replace him at some point, the New York Giants have only been favored to come out on top against the Dallas Cowboys with a -3 point spread.
Personally, I believe that this will be the game in which the Dallas Cowboys’ fortunes change as they should get the win and punch their ticket to the playoffs with the NFC East division title.
