The Chicago Bulls are one of only a handful of teams this summer that will have the means to sign a big-name free agent like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh, but after Thursday’s trade during the NBA Draft, the Bulls have taken another step in the right direction and now have the means to sign two big-name free agents come July 1st.

Throughout this past NBA regular season, the Chicago Bulls were shopping defensive minded point guard Kirk Hinrich in an attempt to clear some cap space for the upcoming free agent market. Unfortunately, despite fielding offers from teams like the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, the Bulls were unable to make a deal and Hinrich remained with the team a little while longer. Even though Hinrich seemed to be in the clear in terms of a trade, the Chicago Bulls were still set on moving the former Kansas Jayhawk before the NBA Draft and that they did.

The Washington Wizards had a nightmare of a season last year as everything seemed to go wrong and their season turned out to be a disaster. As a result of a having a season without a chance of repair, the Wizards started trading away their stars in an effort to start the rebuilding process.

Ultimately, Antawn Jamison (Cleveland Cavaliers), Brendan Haywood (Dallas Mavericks) and Caron Butler (Dallas Mavericks) were sent packing, but there was a light at the end of the tunnel as the Washington Wizards were able to get the number one overall pick in the NBA Draft. Along with the number overall pick, the Wizards also get the 17th overall pick from the Chicago Bulls.
