Previously, the New Jersey Nets were hoping to acquire and sign free agents LeBron James as well as Carlos Boozer; however, they were unsuccessful.  Nevertheless, they were able to sign a point guard from the Los Angeles Lakers, a two-time NBA champion team.

Jordan Farmar of the Los Angeles Lakers has agreed to a contract for the length of three years worth $12 million.  The agreement was official Sunday after the Nets were unable to get James when he ended up signing with the Miami Heat in South Florida with buddies Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade.

The New Jersey Nets was not exactly one of the greatest teams in the NBA last year and are hoping to help expand their skill level and enhance their overall game this upcoming season.  They have over $30 million to spend to acquire new players that are at a higher level that can help add depth to the team.

One of those players that they were able to acquire to help improve their overall game was Farmar.  Farmer is 6-foot-2 and he posted an average of 2.1 assist and 6.9 points within 18.1 minutes per game in his four years with the Los Angeles Lakers.  Being from a two-time champion team, Farmar will be able to truly bring some championship experience to the entire team and hopefully help the Nets reach the championships themselves this upcoming 2010-2011 NBA season.

Of course, the contract will not be completely finalized until the point guard is able to successfully pass a physical.  In addition to Farmar, the New Jersey Nets have also reached agreements with both small forward Travis Outlaw, who agreed to a five-year deal worth $35 million and center Johan Petro, who agreed to a three-year deal worth $10 million.
