The Miami Heat made a huge statement this past summer by doing the unthinkable by signing three superstars in LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Not only did no one think this was possible in South Beach, but the one thing everyone was beginning to think was that these big egos would never be able to play together.

Even though people have been going one of two ways when talking about the Miami Heat as some people think they are destined to win multiple championships and other feel they are destined to fail, the latter seems to be the case right now as they have really struggled against the best of the best in the NBA.

On Thursday night, the Miami Heat played host to the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers in a game that could determine where the team goes from here in terms of head coaching. The Heat are only a few years removed from having Stan Van Gundy getting booted with a talented team including Shaq and Dwyane Wade and a NBA title was the result with Pat Riley calling the shots from the sidelines.

In my opinion, the Miami Heat need a head coach with the kind of resume that Pat Riley in order to demand the kind of respect from superstars like LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Whether or not the Heat are willing to make another bold move at head coach at mid-season remains to be seen, but if Miami continues to struggle against the best teams in the league, I won’t be surprised to see them make the move.

I’m betting that Pat Riley has already started to think about whether or not he could take on the role once again and led this team to another NBA title.
