Over the past decade or so, the Phoenix Suns have been arguably one of the best teams in the Western Conference with a solid chance to compete for an NBA title every single season, but after the team failed to re-sign All-Star forward Amar’e Stoudemire during the offseason, the Suns just haven’t been the same team.
Obviously, when the team has a point guard like two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash running the show, the Suns will always have a shot of at least making the playoffs, but now Phoenix seems to be set on sending their superstar elsewhere.
There is no question that Steve Nash still has a some good seasons left in him as he could have very well won yet another MVP award last season, but the team isn’t getting any younger and after the recent trade which sent leading scorer Jason Richardson and Hedo Turkoglu to the Orlando Magic, the Phoenix Suns have seemingly thrown in the towel.
It is not as if the Phoenix Suns didn’t get anything in return for their trade with the Orlando Magic as they did add Vince Carter, Mickael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat, but it seems like these three players won’t be enough to even lead this team back into the playoffs.
With that being said, the Phoenix Suns have been seriously considering trading away their franchise player in Steve Nash. This is something that many people believed would never happen as the consensus was that Nash would retire with the Suns, but at this point in time it seems more likely that he will get dealt before the NBA trade deadline in February.
The most likely destination seems to be with the New York Knicks where he would reunite with head coach Mike D’Antoni and forward Amar’e Stoudemire, but with point guard Raymond Felton having an All-Star season, the Knicks might be reluctant to deal.
It should be interesting to see what happens from here on out with the Phoenix Suns and Steve Nash as the trade rumors will almost certainly start to run rampant.
