Jermaine O’Neal Gets 2-Year Deal with Celtics; Allen Re-signs

Jermaine O’Neal recently entered the market as a free agent.  The center reportedly signed with the Boston on Thursday.  Reportedly, he and the Celtics have come to an agreement for a two-year contract deal and will acquire nearly $5.8 million for the 2010-2011 NBA season.

The center turns 32 this coming October and in his 14-year career, he has played with a total of four different NBA teams including the Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors and the Miami Heat.  Last season, O’Neal was with the Miami Heat where he started 70 total games in center position and recorded an average of 13.6 points, 1.4 blocks, and 6.9 rebounds.

The Celts current center, Kendrick Perkins, is recovering from an injury to his knee and the 6-foot-11 center will likely be his replacement until he fully recovers.  Perkins is probably going to miss most of the season this year as he has a hard recovery ahead of him once he has surgery on his ACL this coming Monday.

Although the 31-year-old six-time All-Star does not have skill when it comes to shooting 3-pointers, he does have the capability of moving around on the court.  He entered into the 1996 NBA Draft right out of high school and was the 17th overall draft pick.  He has gone on to average 1.9 blocks, 7.5 rebounds, and 14.2 points in his entire NBA career.

Also in Boston Celtics news, 34-year-old Ray Allen has been re-signed to a two year deal as well that is worth $20 million.  Allen has played for three teams including the Milwaukee Bucks, Seattle SuperSonics, and now the Boston Celtics during his also 14-year NBA career.  He first joined Boston back in the summer of 2007.
